US Embassy In Phnom Penh Refused To Grant a Tourist Visa For A Cambodian Female Model Twice

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

why didn't the committee supply her a letter to request visa and guarantee /sponsor her?
Yes. A lot of the "rich" countries are becoming very difficult to enter for young people, particularly when you're single and often change jobs. You have to prove that you will in fact leave the country when your visa expires. Not always easy.
Putheavy wrote:She should not apply for tourist visa as she is planing to join an international competition as presenting for Cambodia. She just apply for mission tourist and she show to invitation from the international competition committee from U.S. and also email should be sent by an international competition committee to U.S. embassy before her interview so every thing it will be fine.
Something like that sounds right. Actually seems a bit weird that she got left to sort it out for herself. Would've thought that she would have contacted the organizers in the US after the first visa refusal...they must have a procedure for bringing in young single girls from all over the world. After all that's their job.

Another thing - may have nothing to do with this - there is a huge US-Thai sex ring bust going on at the moment. Just speculating but visas might be tight for young SEA women going to the US right now.

In the UK we collected a few new residents after the 2012 Olympics, it's not unusual for people to go for a competition and suddenly stay. Cambodia's pretty much a victim of its cash economy were few people have bank accounts and even if they do they don't put their wages in regularly. So you have, apparently, no fixed income and you are female under the age of 50 from an impoverished third world nation. It pops up a big red trafficking flag.

Yes, this does seem unfair if Miss Myanmar, Miss Thailand, Miss Philippines and Miss Vietnam have all been granted visas to compete in the same contest.

She probably messed up on the application or some of the interview questions, happens all the time.
