SINGAPORE – Three Britons accused of gang raping a woman in Singapore while visiting the city-state for a music festival face up to 20 years in jail and caning, court documents showed Thursday.

Khong Tam Thanh, 21, Le Michael, 23, and Vu Thai Son, 23, face one count each of raping a 23-year-old local woman in a hotel in the early hours of September 10.

According to charges seen by AFP, the three men allegedly took turns in raping the woman between 4:00am and 5:50am in a hotel room near the upmarket Orchard Road shopping belt.

They appeared via video-link from Changi Prison on Thursday and were offered bail of Sg$50,000 ($36,400)each. All were represented by lawyers in court.

Orchard Road? 04:00am to 5:50am? Sounds like they got one of the chickens out of the four-floors-of-whores on Orchard Road and once she got to the hotel found out she was going to do three cheap-charleys instead of one guy. Yes, they should have let her go, but it sounds like alcohol was involved and if they got her from the Orchard Road shopping mall/four-floors-of-whores, she was doing illegal work as I would bet she wasn't licensed.

Bail offered to British trio charged with rape

Three Britons of Vietnamese descent who were charged last month with raping a 22-year-old woman in a hotel room were each offered bail of $50,000 in a District Court yesterday.

Khong Tam Thanh, 21; Le Michael; and Vu Thai Son, both 23, are accused of raping the woman at the Carlton Hotel in Bras Basah Road on Sept 10.

They were remanded at the Central Police Division after their first appearance in court on Sept 12.

The trio had flown here from Britain to attend the two-day mega dance music festival Ultra Singapore.

Mr Paul told the court that the $50,000 bail set was on the high side but District Judge Christopher Goh disagreed.

The case will be mentioned again on Nov 22.

If convicted, they could be jailed for up to 20 years and be liable to a fine or to caning...
