Re: Sihanoukville Airport Shuttle/Taxi
becoz if u arrive at shv airport and no pre-arranged transport, u r fucked, and they know u r fucked
Money is not the problem, the problem is no money
Re: Sihanoukville Airport Shuttle/Taxi
Not so true! I arrived 1 hr. later than scheduled with no prearrangement & there are two private taxi services vying for your $. I breezed through immigration with a dollar in Passport & another dollar for customs man. EZ PZ! Private taxi right away is $15. (they asked $20.)
Wait 10-15 mins. & ride in new car with two others for $5. right to my door. Very calm driver & only used horn one time.

So you suggesting if you didn't give them a $ each you would have not have breezed through? Or were you by doing this, wanting to make sure the rest of us who had nothing wrong in their passports and bringing in nothing illegal now go through the slow process, and face obnoxious looks and remarks unless we donate to them the same, as they now come to expect to be tipped?

the only time i ever used to do it is a khmer imigration at the poipet land border,
as theres usually a huge queue plus a couple of bus loads of passports being sent round to the office,
i would just go up to an officer, give him my passport with visa money + $2, id go sit down, 5 minutes later, id have my passport back and be on my way

Yeah, land crossings from Thailand you have often to play a game of wits so not to get ripped off big style. At Poipet, after a couple of previous visits left me less a few $ and pissed off, I once gave the official 100baht through the sheer shock and confusion of being asked for the correct fee. Long stay visa after that ensured never had a bother, never paid extra inc the fake heath check they want you to do.

I suggest nothing of the kind. Just telling you how I avoid vexation. You do as you please.

Re: Sihanoukville Airport Shuttle/Taxi
Why would you tip? Its not necessary and encourages future graft. Do you think that you are clever trying to fuck the system up for others?
I have seen the Chinese tipping at Pochentong but no one else needs to.

Re: Sihanoukville Airport Shuttle/Taxi
Sigh... please don't. Unless you actually look like Luigi, there is absolutely NO need for this, and you're imprinting an expectation that doesn't already exist. I have never tipped airport officials and "breeze through" every time, despite looking like a person of interest.
