Koh Rong Samloem

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Amazing! Great work LTO. And yeah, I can confirm that sanloem means "far away"/"afar". All it takes is a typo and a bunch of translations go wrong. I've found ministry guys (when they're there) are sometimes really helpful because they have nothing to do and they'll be extremely happy to have a chat and help out. Always happy to see a foreigner walk in with a weird enquiry I guess. I went to the ministry of transport a few times to get military-grade maps (smaller scale/grids than standard maps) and the guys were pretty cool and happy to show me around their work stations and show me the software they were using (although their prices were a bit high for "the full package").

You, actually. You started this thing.

Now our next order of business is to track down this song. I think the name of that might be incorrect as well.

Looking back at my post I see that I butchered the suggested spelling of the second island that they noticed may be named incorrectly, Koh Mano. The Dept of Geo guy suggested 'Koh Mnoas' (Pineapple Island), not 'Koh Mnoau'.

Also, another cool thing I got while there is an official map of the new province of Tboung Khmum. I think it may be available elsewhere but this first I've found (not that I was really looking.)

I have to say I haven't seen any maps that have it, but Google maps implemented the change almost immediately (reinforcing my belief that they work in close collaboration with governments). What was the official reason again? It was in the PPPost a while back, but I can't remember what the official reason was (no... NOT gerrymandering).

CNRP you may recall has a CD of songs about Koh Tral. I'd buy some serious beerage for that.

While I have you all here, how about កោះទទឹង? Usually translated as Koh Totang, but based on the spelling would it be Koh Totung? I have no idea if កោះទទឹង is even how it's spelled, and I don't think any locals live there. I wonder if it's in the song.

Google Maps shows 'Koh Rong Sanloem' but when you google 'Koh Rong Sanloem it auto-corrects it to Koh Rong Samloem. :O:

I guess it needs a weight of people on the interweb starting to use koh rong sanloem.

So Giblet are you going to edit the title of this post ??? =@
