Kep

Do you have a Cambodian trip report you want to share? Post it here, and feel free to link to your blog if it's a travel blog for Cambodia, South East Asia, or anywhere really. You can ask and answer questions about travel advice in Cambodia or just share your pictures and videos with us. Most people who live in or visit Cambodia have also checked out nearby countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines, and you can get to most of these countries by traveling overland, so put any travel plans, reviews or questions here. Discussions about dirt bike trails in here as well.

Kep

Post by phuketrichard »

Having just spent 5 days down there i must say i enjoyed it

nice people, good seafood ( but suggest u buy and cook ur own as the restaurants are overpriced)
there upwards of 50 places to choose from to stay from $7 rooms in small gh's to really nice bungalow/villas with sea views for $75 and up.

If u need entertainment give it as miss as you must make ur own, no bars, no clubs, no Karaokes, no mini marts, no grocery stores
only the sea, offshore islands an mountains.
as a bonus over anywhere else;
its clean, there no fucking beggars, does not seem to be have the outright poverty u see elsewhere, no one constantly hassling you to take a moto or tuk tuk.
most tourists seem to walk everywhere, not transport at all that i saw so u must bring ur own.

I could move and live there but its not easy to find rentals ( in 5 days i found not one)
I just might need build something on our land

Seems all the bungalows are out of town heading towards the white horse on the road to Kampot as the Wide empty roads back from the beach where all the destroyed /empty villas are ( with amazing walls and gates) are not for sale

the road from Kampot is excellent and i give it 10-15 years till Kep is Cambodians premier area.

Biggest drawback ( an what will keep it unspoiled) its 2+ hours to SHV's airport , 2 1/2-3 + hours to PP or 30 minute drive from Kampot

I like kep, but would go out of my mind after a day or 2. There is only so much crab I can manage.

Nice photos, Richard. Thanks for sharing.

Did you go to the island(s)? Is it worth the effort? Any decent sized fish out there?

Now, if they could just make the water a bit deeper and install a wave machine.

Richard with a positive post? Damn, I've seen it all now. :hattip:

To be honest, I really couldn't imagine you living in Kep. Seems that after a week you'd be missing Thailand and furious for paying more for everything in Kep vs Phuket, etc.

its an option, and i could live there, more so than anywhere else i have been in Cambodia.
PLUS the gf sister has a shop and 2 houses there :-)
buy a little run about, fish, swim, bicycle an enjoy my old age, i do not need much anymore :thumb:
reminds me of Kamala back in the 80's
NOTHING an hard to get to

Good grocery store in Kampot ( or SHV) so buy a big frig and i would be set. ( yes there are fish )

Went to Rabbit island an liked it but have heard its fucked on weekends, there a bunch of bungalow operations and it would be a nice place to take a girl, a book an some smoke an just kick back.

Have sailed all around there years ago with my friend that owns a sailing boat charter in shv.

everything BUT the fresh seafood ( crab only $2/kilo) and Beer is more expensive than Phuket :beer3:
