Just Booked Tickets to Egypt and the Philippines this Month! (Cairo & Palawan)
Will be a busy month. Heading to Cairo, Egypt next weekend for 3 days, then off to the PhilIppines for a week after that.
Both new countries I've never been to. While I've wanted to go to the Philippines for a long time, I pretty much have no desire to visit Egypt, except to see the pyramids and get the hell outta there without getting kidnapped by ISIS. Seems doable.
Any tips for Cairo? Great prices on "5-star" hotels for around $50/$60 a night, but I have no idea which area I should be in. Was thinking Giza, as it's right near the pyramids, but that's a long ride home from any nightlife activities, if I happen to find any.
Any leads on hotels or nightlife?
I have some British friends I met in Phnom Penh that have since moved to the Philippines to open a guesthouse on the beach, and I've opted to spend most of my time where they are, in Palawan.
Not sure, but it looks like I won't even make it to Angeles City this trip, which is a shame, as I really wanted to have a cultural experience in the Philippines.
And I'm almost certain an "I told you so" will be coming from a few buddies after this trip, as I'm taking a girl who I "met" in Saudi Arabia with me to Palawan. The reason I'm near certain I'll hear "I told you so" is because almost every single time I invite a female friend to the beach with me it only takes a few hours until I'm ready to kill myself and regret bringing company.
And I can't remember if I said this or not before, but here's the story about the girl I "met" in Saudi...
Tinder, she's from the Philippines, yada yada yada...
We decided we'd meet up, and what better place than a compound. Sounded easy enough. So, we planned to meet up at a buddy's compound and have a pool party. And wanted to bring 2 of her friends along so, meh, why not?
So, my buddy and I walk over to a well known street and her and her 2 friends will just follow us a block to the compound. Voila.
I wish.
They show up in a taxi, hop out, quick "hi" and start following us no more than a minute until some old Saudi geezer starts yelling some bullshit like, "Hello! Hello! Who you? Hello!"
My buddy and I give him a fuck off look and ignore him.
The girls decide to acknowledge him and he tries to ask them where they're going or something.
Anyways, it freaked them out (they say it was the religious police, but I think it was just some noisy fucker who just wanted to ruin my weekend) and they decided they would get a taxi outta there.
I will hate that old man for the rest of my life.
To be fair, we probably should have stayed a looooot further away from them than we did, and a quick "hi" when we walked past probably didn't help either.
So, now they've all finished their contracts and she's back in Manila. We'll meet up there and fly to Palawan.
Again, any advice, insults, jokes, feedback, etc about either of these locations would be great and most likely appreciated. Mainly would like areas or specific hotels to stay in, but any "must see" things would be good.
Someone already suggested I see some US cemetery or sumtin but that's before I decided to spend almost all my time on Palawan, and I think that's near Angeles City.

Cairo is fucking wonderful and I could spend months in that city. You're not going to get kidnapped by Isis. Don't stay in Giza... too far from the fun. Stay in the city and take a tour out to the pyramids.
