Hidden Gem in Sihanoukville - Phum Khmer Dey Meas Park

Post by rozzieoz »

We went for a drive to Otres yesterday and stumbled across this gorgeous park.
I have very little information - according to Google it was consecrated by monks in 2012. It's a really amazing place and worth a visit. Walk around and explore- there is something to see around every corner.

There are little nooks and crannies everywhere with something to look at, it's just amazing.

This is the MOST amazing part- This mound contains an example of just about every element you would expect to see at one of the temples. Someone has put SO much thought into this place. This felt like a very sacred spot. I wished I had some incense to pray.

This is fascinating and perplexing. These bricks line various paths in the place and look remarkably similar to stone we've seen in Siem Reap. I'm not sure you can fake that sort of aging.

This is gorgeous, like a little cultural village. It's got a beautiful atmosphere, it really feels like you've stepped into the countryside.

When you are next in SNV, go and have a look. :)

Bloody beautiful. Well done rozzieoz. I just had an awful thought though concerning a Chinese invasion. See it soon . . .

Could be doable.

''First you wear down the sharp angles, maybe chip them a little. Then you soak it in sulfuric acid, to give the stone some nice pits. Finally you put the piece in another kind of acid that makes it darker, older looking. Some people also bury it for a while, but that's not really necessary except for buyers who feel safer with a little dirt.''
The slim young Thai, who prefers to remain nameless, spoke with authority, as well he should: he is one of the most proficient producers of fake Khmer statuary in Thailand today, and samples of his handiwork turn up regularly in auctions of Asian art and private collections, having passed the scrutiny of experts just as easily as they would the far less practiced eye of ordinary antique shoppers in Bangkok.

It's on the way to Otres - just near the bridge with all the rubbish.

My favorite respite on the journey to Otres

My gf knows the benefactors & tells a touching story of the how the couple met who funded.
I'll see if she wants to post the photos from a year ago.
