The Rump fires US Attorney General

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

The Rump fires US Attorney General

Post by taabarang »

No respect for constitutional law or else ignorance thereof. Plus I fail to understand how he is defending our borders by making enemies worldwide.

President of the USA does not recognize his own justice system, or even honour the American Constitution. Does he think he is above the law ?

Sally Yates fired by Trump after acting US attorney general defied travel ban
White House says Obama appointee ‘betrayed’ justice department with letter instructing officials not to enforce president’s executive order

Patrick Leahy, Democrat and ranking member of the Senate judiciary committee, said: “Federal courts have already found President Trump’s immigration order is very likely unconstitutional, and tonight acting attorney general Yates concluded that it was not legally defensible.

“She was fired for recognising that her oath is to the Constitution and not to President Trump. His accusation that she has ‘betrayed the Department of Justice’ is wrong and it is dangerous.

“President Trump has now put his cabinet on notice: if you adhere to your oath of office to defend the Constitution, you risk your job. Equally troubling is that his nominee for attorney general, Senator Jeff Sessions, has shown no indication that he has the independence to put the Constitution before the president. The Senate at its best can be the conscience of the nation. Senators must oppose Senator Sessions.”

Analysts compared the firing to the 1973 “Saturday night massacre” when Richard Nixon sacked the special Watergate prosecutor, Archibald Cox, prompting the resignation of Elliot Richardson as attorney general.

taabarang wrote:"Good luck like Good luck to us all. If he retaliates this within his own govt think how he might react to countries"that don't toe the line.". Add a mentally unstable general or two like Brig. General Jack D. Ripper from Dr. Strangelove and you've got the scenario. He has gone from being a clown to being a potential psycho. Americans have to be responsible for him bit other nations damn well be leery of him.
Of course Taa. I know it will affect/ infect us all, but you guys have a great constitution that is supposed to deal with excess of power, by whoever. So, I repeat, good luck. We are counting on you.

And fortunately, here in Cambodia, we are far removed from psycho dictators. :salut:
Please don't even mention unstable generals.

Damn, that's one hell of a prognostication. It's not permanent but encouraging nonetheless.

So the president chooses the attorney general. President issues an executive order. No law stating that executive orders are inherently illegal for a president to issue. Attorney general chooses not to follow the president's orders. So this is an excess of power?

1"No law stating that executive orders are inherently illegal for a president to issue"

I really didn't get your point. Two federal judges found Trump' s ban unconstitutional. What's your notion of "inherently illegal?"

I don't know if it's wrong or even misplaced. What I find amusing is the reaction of stalwart fascists who support The Rump, the saddest excuse for a President to ever hold the office
He is the swamp that will be cleaned in DC.
