back from my 10 day motorcyle trip thru the Chin state. Burma

Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

Thanks for sharing your photos. They are real works of art.
I went to Burma in 82 or 83. It was the time of restricted travel and one week visas. The upside was that it was like we had the whole country to ourselves, there were so few tourists. The Burmese people were so happy to see westerners and the welcome was amazing. Pagan and Inle were almost deserted places - awesome in the original sense of the word. I was a backpacker at the time with a shitty little camera - before the days of digital - so I have very few photos, some blurry scenic shots taken off the back of a horse and cart or a truck, but also Pagan with not a tourist in sight. Most of the memories are in my head.
Looking forward to the next lot of pics. :thumb:

A basic question or two.
Is it easy to find clean and safe guest houses in these places?. Always wanted to go but heard there was only either $1 rooms or $100+. So now there are places available without wandering around the town in the heat with your luggage. (could do that 20 yrs ago but not up to it now) Any online booking places that seem reliable? What is the standard of accommodation there compared to Thailand or Cambodia?

VERY easy, in the big 4 u get very good room (1 or 2 people) ( aircon, wifi, tv, hot water) for $25-30
Some of the places i go are very basic GH, ie room, shared toilet, bucket showers, sometimes no hot water.. 7-15,000 kyat
Some of the places, (even the cheap GH's) give u a basic breakfast ( 3 in1 coffee, an egg, toast, fruit)
lowest i paid was 5,000 kyat, most expensive was a resort in Mogok for $75

Booking .com has lots of places
for the same amount $$ in Northern Thailand or Cambodia u would get a nicer room
BUT
a meal will set ya back $1.50-3.00 A large Myanmar beer ( far superior to anything produced in Cambodia ) $1.25
Bus's are cheap,internal flights everywhere.

Wish i had gone in 82/83 ( bottle j walker and a carton 555 LOL) but those years i was traveling by bicycle and focused on India, Nepal, Thailand
my 1st trip to Burma wasn't till 88 and still only allowed one week.

Heading back ( again) in Feb

Whats nice about my trips is my air and hotels are pre paid for by an agency and all they ask for is 1st choice of photos :-)
