Thanks for that. My wife not only knows the tree, but unbeknownst to me planted one in our backyard last year. By the way I had to pronounce the word mrOm for her to understand.

Cheers, thanks for that, I did not actually know the Khmer name for it either, Mrom, nice to know

so oversupply seems to be the main issue......

you still wouldn't think that it (or the powder derivative) would be selling for $35Kg?

.... still that is a lot of leaves I guess!!

Gavin, I may be wrong here, but I suspect that the price you referred to($35)is most likely for a kilo of dried crushed seeds. It's a mite labor intensive in that the seeds must be removed from the pod, dried and.then the husk removed from each seed. I tried my first seed a few minutes ago. The taste is at best ok, but nothing to write home about. Hope the tea tastes better.

Thanks Viper,

Yes, that would make sense, and with one tree only producing between 800-1600 seed pods (from what I have read), that is an awful lot trees to make one kilo of powder.

I might be wrong here, you would just crush the seeds and put the remainder through something like a rice milling (?) machine I would have thought....

Anyway, I guess that closes that door.... if it was that viable everyone would be doing it...

next..... :beer1:

Gavin, mo really. Each pod is 12-16 inches long and contains 10-15 small seeds. That is, if my batch is representative.

Yes, thanks Viper,

I guess that is what I meant.

It's a S'Load of seeds/seed pods to process per kilo..... plus

as you say, the processing must be labor intensive... given the size/amount of seeds and that a rice milling (??) machine won't do the job adequately.

Point taken....

I guess I am just investigating what opportunities there might be in the Kingdom at this point.

I have to wait for my house to sell and some other legal matters to dissolve, so I have plenty of time on my hands to try and find something more than just 'remotely viable'. Nothing seems to have come to fruition as yet.
