Most important thing in any land purchase is the title. if a hard title can't be obtained, you could face trouble in the future.

Which doesn't make it worthless... Just worth less. Don't build anything on it you won't be willing to part with, etc. We're going to get some cheap soft title land for grazing beef on... With a smallish house. Cheap, simple, mostly mobile. I look at it as a prepaid long term lease.

Danish bull sperm making splash in Thailand

According to Vikinggenetics, the best cow is produced when breeding robust Danish bulls with Thai cows that are used to the heat in South-East Asia

Denmark is well known for it ability to produce quality dairy products, bacon, green energy and pharmaceutical products. Now, you can officially add bull sperm to the list.

Vikinggenetics, the Scandinavian-owned cattle-breeding company based in Randers, has garnered a massive order of bull sperm from Thailand after recent promotional trips to the nation.

"It was a success because when you secure an order to take home that first time you are on a business trip, you can feel a bit proud,” H.C. Hansen, the firm’s export manager, told DR Nyheder.

Thailand eyeing Danish market

The farmer-owned company secured considerable orders consisting of 2,500 doses of sperm from Red Danish and Holstein bulls, the equivalent of 2,500 inseminations.

Vikinggenetics, which is 50 percent owned by Danish farmers and 25 percent owned by Finnish and Swedish farmers, argued that it was no coincidence that the Thai market has focused their interest on Danish bulls.

“We are in possession of some good bulls, genetically speaking. We have chosen our bulls based on how much milk that the cows they breed give,” Hansen said. “Furthermore, they are very resistant to disease and are very fertile.”

Getting a foot in the door

But according to Hansen, the best cow is produced when breeding Thai cows with Danish bulls, because while the Danish bulls are robust, the Thai cows are used to the heat in South-East Asia.

The demand for milk in Thailand has grown exponentially along with the nation’s living standards and Vikinggenetics hopes that the same thing will occur to Thailand’s neighbours.

“Thailand is a member of ASEAN, an association of South-East Asian nations, and we hope that this can be our gateway in to a market that includes millions of people,” Hansen said.

Thailand’s milk production consists of about 250,000 cows, while the Danish milk production is twice as large.

Crazy idea. Put a houseboat on the cattle pond for security/flooding. :)

bos taurus will never be any good for dairy in cambo. some of the gujerati milk breeds have shown tremendous production in brasil under a proper feed regime ( ie; not starved) bos indicos has natural resistance to pests and the heat. totally off track with euro cattle.

A close friend in Australia was mucking about with a global project, don't remember the agency, cross breeding Spanish cows (kianina? Something like that) against the different breeds of dairy cows we had in the herd, to develop a drought tolerant dairy breed for arid areas. He really got some mutant animals out of that, one of the offspring stood eight feet tall and was just vicious.

"Most important thing in any land purchase is the title. if a hard title can't be obtained, you could face trouble in the future." Truer words were never spoken, but have you ever tried to get one in a country where most property is considered "state property?"

About 10 years ago I purchased slightly less than 2 hectares of land outside of Kampong Cham from my mother in law. The total cost including the construction of a simple home(brick/cement ground floor, wooden upper floor) big enough for 2 adults and 2 children was slightly less than $9,000. That was for everything. I believed in my marriage and in the integrity of my wife and her family. There is no hard title, but we have had offers to sell. In any case I bought the land under the assumption that as a %49 owner I would lose all if the marriage went south. I did not look upon it as an investment, but as a home for the wife and kids which I would under no circumstances contest in court. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and walk away.

The land is loaded with fruit trees and the location has forced me to learn Cambodian thus opening doors to a new world of discovery. It was undoubtedly a bad business decision, but has afforded me access to personal discovery that is priceless. Don't come to Cambodia if you've got no adventure in your soul and pocketbook!
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.
