(RIP) King Bhumibol Adulyadej - Rama IX (5 December 1927 - 13 October 2016)

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Otherwise, there will also be tourists who will go elsewhere on the globe because SEA sounds like a drag. Thailand is the most important tourist destination in SEA, so of course that will affect us all if a lot of tourists stop going to Thailand.

Short-term, i think Cambodia will gain, but maybe not after that. We'll see.
Could be, but the problem is that most people / tourist use Bangkok as their hub for exploration in the area, if they sense trouble here, well ....
Everyone is holding their breaths for this high season

Dont expect a whole lot of changes here soon. After the 30 days, things will be back as they were and life goes on as before for most, just sans their beloved king
Personally i think something down south will escalate soon.

Unless they know you're coming - lucky you've been keeping quiet. :director:
But I did hear there's a nationwide ban on Long Island Ice Teas starting Dec 3.

Blogger Calls For Harassment of BBC Correspondent
Head said he’s been targeted by Cartalucci before, but it’s the first time the blogger encouraged other people to harass him physically.

“In the current emotional climate that is worrying,” Head wrote in reply to inquiries. “Some of the people commenting on his FB page are making threats of violence, and some talking about my children. Normally I don’t worry about these kinds of online attacks – I’ve had plenty over the years. But these are not normal times, and it is dangerous for anyone to use social media to encourage mob action against journalists.”He added that the BBC is aware of the issue and would take action if needed.

Politically yes, economically no. 2nd quarter GDP growth was the strongest for 3 years, the predictions of economic doom and gloom when the military took control haven't materialised. Tourism is 8-10% of GDP.

but it's the nature of and the amount of personal debt which is the big worry
The composition of household debt in Thailand and Malaysia further amplifies the concern. In many developed countries, three-fourths of household debt is in the form of mortgages (see graphic).

In Thailand and Malaysia, half is consumption-related with credit-card, personal loans and auto loans. The assets underlying consumption-related loans depreciate in value quickly. In contrast, house prices usually go up, so a house is considered an investment.
