Is it Safe to Visit Thailand ?

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

By the way, the ruling for the Yingluk Rice Scheme Trial is Aug 25. It's already shaping up to be a memorable day.

Gen Anupong warns people not to gather for Yingluck court verdict
http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/ ... s/30321719
Yingluck is due in court on August 25 to receive the judgment for her alleged negligence in preventing corruption and irregularities in the rice-pledging scheme.

Her attendance at court last Friday attracted hundreds of supporters.

With even larger numbers of supporters expected for the verdict, Anupong has ordered provincial governors to “create public understanding” at the local level. “Giving moral support may be well intended but anything possible can happen,” he said.
Strangely enough, they've already begun seizing her moolah.

Yingluck questions junta move to freeze bank accounts

The justice ministry on Monday began freezing several of her bank accounts.

She had filed a court petition to revoke the action to freeze her bank accounts saying the move was unlawful.

“The government has chosen to go ahead with it because they think they have the power to do whatever they want, without even waiting on the court’s decision on my injunction request,” Yingluck wrote on her official Facebook page, adding that she would continue the fight to prove her innocence.

Thai activist abducted in Laos as tensions rise in Thailand

http://www.smh.com.au/world/thai-activi ... gxn171.htm
Witnesses said Wuthipong Kachathamakul, also known as Ko Tee, and his wife and a friend were confronted at his house in Vientiane by ten men wearing black hoods, hit with stun guns and had their wrists tied with plastic handcuffs and their mouths gagged.

Mr Wuthipong was then driven away in a vehicle and has not been since the incident on July 29.

His wife and the friend, who were left at the house, said the men were speaking Thai.
Political tensions are rising again in Thailand ahead of a verdict on August 25 in the trial of former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra on charges relating to a failed government rice subsidy scheme. She faces a possible 10-year jail sentence if convicted.

More than 1000 supporters ignored requests by Thai authorities to stay away from Ms Yingluck's trial as she gave her closing statement on Tuesday.

Thailand is perfectly safe if you stay away from:
- scooters/motos
- buses
- boats
- beaches (if you're Chinese)
- jet skis
- parasailing
- bombs
- zip lines
- bungy jumps
- waterfalls
- elephants
- anything electrical
- ladyboys
- Koh Tao.
You could be next.

Mostly safe in Isaan. I'd even say the far south is safer than anywhere near tourist areas.
Try Nong Khai, Udon Thani, or Ubon Ratchatani. Very safe places to visit.
