I said it earlier in the thread but I really think Aldo is going to win this.

Either way it will be one hell of a fight.

yeah conor has the punch and the confidence, aldo is the better all round fighter, he just needs to keep focused as conor has and will continue to get into his head, hes done a good job so far, im backing conor i think, but if its a good scrap i dont really care who wins, im all about the fight rather than the result

Is there real interest in MMA among expats in Cambodia as a spectator sport or even Martial Arts in general other than Pradal serey/Bokator?

I think I read the owner of Charlie Harper’s bar couldn’t even get an archery club established nearly a decade ago and there’s only a group of 6-8 people that practice Kendo in the wrestling or TKD room at the Olympic stadium.

I am aware of Paddy’s and Prokout and I know they have weekly Khmer boxing, but are there anything (camps, schools, dojos, stadiums) in other cities such as Sihanoukville?

This is a serious question as I got the impression that the sentiment/interest regarding MMA and other Martial Arts among expats (and Cambodians) was a decade behind the West were it seems to be mainstream now.

I attribute my assessment (which is probably wrong) to Cambodia being a developing country, but I was just wondering for clarification on the "ambiance" in Cambodia.

Paddy also has a gym in Siem Reap, theres also a kickboxing stadium there ive been to it a couple of times,

kickboxing is just as popular in cambodia as it is in thailand, the difference is its big game in thailand, its a big money maker and gets lots of money thrown at it, theres gyms everywhere that make loads of money schooling tourists/expats/bootcamps, they make a lot of money from them, for a 1 hour session in thailand costs £8/$12.50, where as in cambodia 4hours costs me £4/$6, if i was to fight in Thailand i would get paid £200/$300 a fight, in cambodia id get £40-50/$60-80, in both countries the fighters will train for free and the trainers either take their purse as payment and the fighter gets his wage from all the tips from the betting crowd, put on a good fight, get more tips...

naa there is fuck all in SHV to my frustration, there is a very big demand for it from the expat and local community, there is that sports retreat place, and it does have a ring there, but no jokes classes would be better lol when i get back to the kingdom im going to be setting up a boxing/kickboxing club if all goes to plan

I’m old and practically indignant but I was in the fight training game for a long time
And in classical martial arts even longer.

A 4th generation student of mine fought Aldo and lost;
both were injured but the public only found out about it until after the fight.
Aldo was the better fighter and I personally like how he carries himself.

With that said, if McGregor is the new champion it will be good for the sport and Aldo has been champion for a long time.
However, I'm betting on Aldo and his grappling is vastly underrated; look up Aldo's more obscure grappling matches. Either way, exciting match up.

P.S. I've been playing with the idea of setting up a club/guild or something for the more older, less able-bodied ladies and gentlemen. Medieval fencing or traditional archery; just for the pleasure of it and the tangential benefits of fitness it provides.
