Petanque has the advantage of being one of the few sports where you can drink while playing. A pastis or three helps you to aim better.
Just saying.

Re: Gold for Cambodia at World Petanque Championships.
A Hero's Welcome.
Cambodian gold medal winning Petanque star Sok Chanmean was welcomed back with much fanfare to the Kingdom on Wednesday evening with a lavish welcome party laid out by the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).
Chanmean was received by Thong Khon, president of the NOCC and Minister of Tourism, and an NOCC delegation at Phnom Penh International Airport on Wednesday evening. He was whisked away by motorcade for a welcome meeting to celebrate his success on behalf of the Kingdom.
Chanmean, one of four Cambodians participating in the World Petanque Championships in Madagascar, defeated 2010 and 2012 French champion Boursicaud Bruno 36-29 in the final to claim a sensational – and lucrative – medal.
“Congratulations to Cambodia’s Sok Chanmean, who grabbed a gold medal in the World Petanque Championships in Madagascar which ended on December 4,” said Prime Minister HE, who even provided a live video feed of the athlete’s arrival.
The government of Cambodia rewarded medal winners at the 28th SEA Games 2015 in Singapore with more than $400,000 and the premier, a keen golfer himself, has often stressed the importance his government places on sporting endeavors.
Each SEA Games gold medalist received $10,000, silver medalists got $7,500 while those bringing home a bronze received $4,000.
Chanmean, one of the nation’s most decorated sportsmen, had also claimed a silver medal in the men’s petanque shooting event in Singapore and along with female veteran Ke Leng remains one of Cambodia’s best chances to medals in international competitions.
It is yet to be announced whether any financial rewards await the medalist.
Chanmean is expected to be welcomed to the Peace Palace today where he will be received by the prime minister himself.
