Countdown to National Games opening begins

Amid growing countrywide excitement, the inaugural National Games are to officially open on Friday with a spectacular opening ceremony.

The Games are set to pave the way for the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia’s pivot towards a structured approach to sports administration and competitions.

In the wake of Cambodia’s qualification to the prestigious Suzuki Cup after a gap of eight years, football takes pride of place among team events, with Rio Olympic qualifer Sorn Seavmey’s stardom lifting the profile of taekwondo among with individual events.

Ahead of the opening ceremony, competition in football will kick off today at two venues, Bati Center and the Royal University of Phnom Penh grounds. Events in volleyball, basketball, table tennis and taekwondo are already underway...

PM set to open inaugural National Games

Prime Minister HE is to open the inaugural National Games at the Olympic Stadium today. The ceremony officially starts at 3:30pm, when participants, athletes and officials will gather at the Olympic Stadium, and well-known Cambodian entertainers will start performing from 4:30pm.

HE is scheduled to arrive at 5:30pm to open the main ceremony, where a Cambodian sporting anthem will be sung,while soldiers displaying the Cambodian and Olympic flags will parachute into the stadium, before martial art demonstrations from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and l’bokator practitioners as well as artistic performances by teams from the Physical Education and Sport Institution and Ministry of Culture and Fine Art...

Vath Chamroeun, secretary-general of the NOCC, said yesterday: “The opening ceremony has been carefully and seriously organised, and today we did the final rehearsal. Hard training indeed. If anyone has a camera/video, there should be more parachutists falling from the skies from 17:30 tonight .
