Total street food ban for Bangkok

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

2009 till mid 2014 in my opinion.
now thailand is expensive and Thais are haters
So glad I lived in Thailand when it was still very cheap, run by relatively sensible people, and cheap as chips.

The only problem that i would have in Thailand is a fear of being killed on the road. It has been a military dictatorship for most of it's existence.

They make a ruling and wait to see how much backlash it generates and than....
owever, in an interview with Voice TV this morning, Chairman of Advisers to Governor of Bangkok Vallop Suwandee refuted the circulating news, stating:

"It is very far from the truth. In fact, it is the opposite. Khao San and Yaowarat roads are two main centers of tourism in Bangkok. Therefore, the BMA is making plans to help preserve this Thainess for foreigners. We are simply putting stricter regulations to keep these areas in order, ranging from the hygiene of the food served to the prevention of food waste thrown into the streets. We are not stopping the stalls from selling their food, but are just regulating the quality and order."

There was no ruling, and no-one was waiting to see any backlash. It was purely and simply 'Fake News'.

While everyone was sucking up the fake news, TAT was in the midst of actively promoting Bangkok/Thailand as the go to place for street food. Apparently, it is already #1 in the world for street food. It's not going anywhere soon.

1. The didn't do this, nor do they have any plan to do this!

2. The military government is doing a good job. Several former politicians have been hit with lengthy jail terms for their years of corruption. They have military guys watching the traffic cops to make sure they are not taking back-handers, etc.

3. (2009 - 2014) You must be very young. Agree with Richard, go back to the 80's and 90's.

I personally dont think it was fake news, its just the policy makers really haven't a clue whats going on and they TRY and make things better they dont look at the big picture
The Ministry of Commerce plans to make Thailand as a "Paradise of Street Food" after the country was named for having the best street food in the world for the second consecutive year this year.
Commerce Minister Apiradi Tantraporn said the promotion of quality and clean street food would be done through its current “Noo Nich” project which emphasised on “delicious food, good quality, clean and cheap price.”

The project is now implemented in Bangkok and is expanding to the provinces, she said.

as to the current government MOST thai's are happy with what they are doing.
its to bad they are ignoring the problems down south and seem to be unaware of the growing discontent with the Thai Moslems. There have been over 40 bombs down south since the new constitution came in to effect.

I've always had this dream of opening a restaurant serving street food in BKKK, but with a twist that will drive the foodies wild:

All of the tables and seating will placed smack dab in the middle of the road, on the center line if there is one, instead of on the sidewalk or in the gutter, so that diners can enjoy a full dose of STREET in their street food while the motor vehicles pass around them.

Would probably make a million. Hope nobody steals my idea.

I may be going to hell in a bucket,
but at least I'm enjoying the ride.

Right. After reading the OP's news link it was clear that this is a case of the left hand not letting the right hand know what was going on.
