A Supreme Court appeal started yesterday in the case of a well connected businessman and three others in a drug trafficking saga stretching back to 2013.
Tan Senghak, 50, who carries the honorary title oknha, and the others were convicted by lower courts and jailed for between six and eight years.

Mr. Senghak is also a former adviser to ex-Senate President Chea Sim.

Five other people were originally involved in the case. So Yary, 28, Long Chheko, 27, Kong Rayuth, 30, Sin Chan Reaksmey, 25, and Chhin Chanthy, 30, were convicted of drug trafficking and of being accomplices to trafficking.

They were arrested after Interior Ministry anti-drug police raided Mr. Senghak’s villa in the Sen Sok district of Phnom Penh.The raid in November 2013 yielded 115 grams of cocaine, 913 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a big package of pipes and other related drug materials.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court convicted Mr. Senghak, who was accused of being the drug trafficking mastermind, and jailed him for eight years...

Tycoon loses drugs case
Businessman Tan Senghak has lost his Supreme Court appeal against his conviction for drug trafficking and his eight-year jail term.

Mr. Senghak, who holds the title Oknha, or tycoon, is also a former adviser to ex-Senate president Chea Sim.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court upheld a decision of the Appeal Court in the cases of Mr. Senghak and three others, all of whom were given six-year terms.
