No reason why you can't start up a Tilers Training Academy. Teach the locals how to lay tiles (floor, walls, bathrooms, etc.) with grouting between the tiles, how to waterproof bathrooms, how to install an 'S-bend' pipe under sinks etc.

If you've got some bucks behind you, and an entrepreneurial spirit, who knows what you could get going.

If I had the money I definitely would!

You can leave cambodia anytime you want right ? Take a 30 day vacation (you dont have to spend much) in cambodia and if you find a job , stay . If not at least you tried and wont have to spend the rest of your life wondering . It dont have to be a do or die thing if you plan properly ( even with meager savings)

unless you are experienced in hotel/catering management etc you wont find a job in hotel services earning much more than $150-200 per month, as thats what the locals will work for
visas you sort out when youre here, and unless you got a degree in something and can job hunt decent positions online and have skype interviews, you are best of job hunting here,
but unless youre qualified in something you will be earning peanuts
Gotcha...thanks for the input is there a decent construction trade going on there? I specialize in flooring especially Tile and stone work but have been doing General construction most of my life

From the professional point of view, I know nothing, however there should be a market in constructing and tiling bathroom floors so the water flows down the drain instead of leaving the bathroom flooded. This could be a big hit. :thumb:
Seriously, there's still a lot of potential in bathrooms, and also kitchens probably.
Proper bathrooms are a relatively new concept for Cambodians. For the moment, a shower extension hooked on to the wall with a water heater, situated on or near the toilet is pretty much standard.
So yes, IMO there's a market there.

Just look at any free-standing apartment building. You can quickly work out where the bathroom is from looking on the outside. You can see the damp spots coming through the exterior wall.

Best business that I've seen started up here lately is Daniel's 'Lameda Design', his crew does furniture and kitchen design, cabinet layout, shop builds, fitting, etc. Forget tiles bro, there's shit all money in that here unless you want local wages. Nobody levels with quick set etc, they just lay a thick concrete layer to level it out for drainage and such and lay straight on top. God forbid if you took on a job here that required you to remove tiles...you'd be at it for months!
Bottom line...if you don't have say min 25-50k$+ to invest (specialty tools and initial inventory import of whatever materials, rental and marketing, getting ripped off by partners, etc.) and a solid business idea that would be considered a high end specialty here, you'll be living below a teflers salary.

There are jobs for expats in construction despite what the naysayers think. But speaking some Khmer is important and spending some time making connections. But no one wants to spend any money, local labour is so cheap and there is little demand for quality work.
Basically all the buildings are shit with terrible plumbing and electrical, rough as guts tiling and no falls to wet area floors.
But there are a couple of barangs doing pretty well with shop fitting and general construction. Daniel Lemada seems to be doing OK and his kitchens are looking better and better.
Someone posted all the job agencies on a thread somewhere here lately, have a look.
