That is so posh. Who flies when they can take minivans and trains?phuketrichard wrote:Nope, air fare would be too costly. here its less than $250 r'/t from PhuketLionsLeftTesticle wrote:Ricardo,
Do you think you would travel to Burma so much if you lived in US?
I can definitely see why someone living in a SEA hotspot would enjoy it every now and again.
You mean what other tourists consider the places u must visit?? i traveled down the chindwin river last year, didn't see another white face/tourist for over 8 days, been many places i have never seen tourists ,( i spent 8 months bicycling India one year) been many places in that country that tourist never go, same goes for Africa....that the places of interest are usually frequented by other travellers.
Diferent people travel for different reason. I travel to travel, not necessarily to get somewhere ( especially that someone else has been )
Btw you didn't see another white face because the Burmese Off beaten track eat people.

MY last trip in the chin state 10 days, saw at most 10 tourists
There must be pleeenty of places in Thailand, let alone LAOS, VIETNAM, CAMBODIA, where you wont see a tourist for months. Why do you not mention those countries?
Does Myanmar have that extra special nostalgic ring to it that appeals to you, or something?
I mean good luck to you, and nice glossy photos too.
So where else you been?
Indonesia? Philippines? Latin America? Afrika?
More than just any old backpacker.

back to the topic, upon revisiting this PR's assertion you could do 10 months with 2 tourist visa's has me flummoxed. I don't see how one would work two "permissions to stay" into this. If you enter with a Tourist Visa they will stamp and enact it upon arrival. Same if you go out to say Cambodia and get another Tourist Visa. I see 6 months. In addition the requirements for the TV now seem to be different than last time I did it. Gotta look at it again but they want to see a bank statement and it seems the amount they want to see is way up. PLUS I have to drive 6 hours to the honorary consul as the rules changed and you must submit it in person now, no more mailing it in. Time was you could get a rail ticket which COULD be cancelled and refunded but I believe that is no longer a way to go. I've never had the onward travel problem, but with Thailand you NEVER know what you are in for on any given trip.

was denied entry with far in excess of 20000 baht in euro travelers cheques.
had to go back to malaysia and pull money out of my THAI bank account which i had and showed the thai bank books (3) and then compulsorily change the malaysan ringit into thai baht at the only money changer.
officer then pointedly asked where i changed the money before he would proceed. yeah draw your own conclusions i have drawn mine yep and i also dont go there any more.
in case you arent aware of the expense involved in international atm withdrawal and changing money at money changers, in this case i could actually see how much money was disappearing because it was coming out of my baht account and being changed back into baht , notice the short fall between my sms notice account withdrawal amount and what i then received for the ringit. put it this way it was the most expensive border crossing in my life.

the only reason i was being denied was that i didnt have 20000 baht in thai baht CASH ON ME AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME. as i pointed out already, i had readily provable amounts of money; when that was rectified at great expense to myself, i was then allowed to enter.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2017 10:05 am denied WHY> did u have a visa? or trying to enter with Visa exempt? your thai apologist rhetoric just aint going to wash it under the carpet in this case.
oh yeah first thing i did on arriving in bangkok was close my one thai baht FIXED deposit account. only way to pull money out of that is if it is WRITTEN in the bank book at the branch. and it alone was far in excess of 20000 baht. have two other non fixed accounts as well.
