Fisheries chief reported for $3000 bribe.
The administrative chief of the provincial fisheries department in Takeo province was summoned by the provincial court for questioning over allegations that he freed three men suspected of illegal fishing in exchange for a bribe of more than $3,000.
Penal police officer Sok Samoun, working with the Takeo provincial police, said Sao Kosal was questioned by the provincial prosecutor after allegedly releasing three suspects without reporting it to the provincial court or seeking approval from the prosecutor.
At midnight on Saturday, three fishermen were arrested by provincial fishery officers for using illegal fishing nets on a river in Takeo province’s Kork Thlok commune. Officials confiscated fishing nets and other illegal fishing materials from the three men.
The three were released later that day after paying Mr. Kosal $1,050 each, according to Mr. Samoun. News of their release spread amongst the officers within the department, some of whom reported Mr. Kosal to the provincial court and told media outlets about what happened...
