Re: A [VERY] bad day in Bali
Connor and her British DJ boyfriend David Taylor are set to face Denpasar district court on Wednesday for the first day of their trial over the death of Wayan Sudarsa, whose bloodied body was discovered on the popular tourist beach in the early hours of 17 August.
He had allegedly suffered 42 wounds to his body.
Connor denies having anything to do with the assault on Sudarsa but concedes she helped destroy evidence after the alleged killing.
Taylor, meanwhile, admits assaulting the police officer but not killing him...

Re: A [VERY] bad day in Bali
A moving scene in the Indonesian court, as the victim's widow relates learning of her husband's death, and describes what a kind and funny man he was. The widow, Ketut Arsini, has refused to accept a financial "donation" offered by Sara Connor in a letter written in September before the trial.

'I don't want a dime': Widow of Bali policeman rejects donation from Sara Connor
The widow of the Bali police officer allegedly murdered on a Kuta beach has said she did not "want a dime" from suspect Sara Connor and in dramatic court scenes called for the Byron Bay woman to receive the maximum punishment.
["I beg the perpetrators be given the fair penalty, the maximum for what they did under Indonesian law," she said.]
Ms Connor addressed widow Ketut Arsini directly for the first time since the battered body of Wayan Sudarsa, a police officer for 35 years and father of two, was found on August 17.
The 46-year-old Byron Bay woman stressed her innocence but said she felt "a great sadness for your loss and what happened".
"I am not rich but I wanted to offer you a donation," Ms Connor said. In a letter to the widow, seen by Fairfax Media, which was dated September 25, Ms Connor offered a donation of 25 million rupiah (about $2500).[Copy of letter visible in link below.]
Ms Connor's lawyer, Robert Khuana, told the court his client asked for him to convey her sympathy and request to assist financially.
"Please do not see this as a bribe," he told the widow. "The legal proceedings will continue."...

Bali prosecutors ask for eight-year jail term for Sara Connor and David Taylor
Bali prosecutors have called for Australian woman Sara Connor and her British boyfriend, David Taylor, to receive the same eight-year sentence over the alleged fatal assault of a local police officer, saying she had failed to admit her role in what happened.
Connor, 45, has always maintained she was “innocent” and did nothing but try to separate her British boyfriend David Taylor and local police officer Wayan Sudarsa when they became embroiled in a fight on Kuta beach in the early hours of 17 August last year.
The pair had gone to trial facing charges of murder, fatal assault in company and assault causing death over the alleged killing of Sudarsa.
But on Tuesday prosecutor Agung Jayalantara said they should not be convicted of murder – which carries with it a maximum penalty of 15 years. It was clear, he added, that the pair had not intended to kill the police officer.
Instead, the prosecutor submitted they should be convicted of fatal assault in company, which carries a maximum of 12 years...
Taylor, the prosecutor told the court, had shown remorse, regret and had been upfront during the hearings. But prosecutors alleged Connor had been convoluted in her responses and had not admitted to what she did.

Sentencing: 6 years prison for David Taylor, and 4 years for Sarah Connor. Not guilty of murder, but convicted for "group violence".
Monday 13 March 2017 09.04 GMT
An Indonesian court has sentenced a British man to six years in jail over the fatal assault of a police officer in Bali. His Australian girlfriend received a four-year sentence.
David Taylor, 34, and Sara Connor, 46, have been held since August 2016 when they were arrested for the night-time attack on Wayan Sudarsa, whose bloodied body was found on Kuta beach.
The three judges at Denpasar court did not hand down a murder sentence, as they found there to be no intent to kill, but said the pair were guilty of “group violence”.

Re: A [VERY] bad day in Bali
I would bet it was actually the local Wayan Sudarsa's fault and likely other locals and the foreigners were like just trying to protect themselves or something like that. I lived in bali 13 months and know how those locals are even though that was decades ago.CEOCambodiaNews wrote: ↑Tue Mar 14, 2017 2:31 pm Sentencing: 6 years prison for David Taylor, and 4 years for Sarah Connor. Sara Connor, 'stressed' and 'confused' after jail sentence in Bali, faces key decision
Sara Connor has a tough decision to make.
The Byron Bay woman, sentenced to four years' jail by a Bali court on Monday, has a week to decide whether she will appeal in Bali's High Court or accept the ruling from the panel of three judges.
If the 46-year-old does appeal to have the conviction overturned, she runs the risk of having the sentence increased...

She would be insane to appeal the four year sentence. If she does, I bet they will happily double it.

Re: A [VERY] bad day in Bali
(edited) The prosecution appealed the sentence and she's been given an additional year in prison. Lucky it wasn't more.
Australian woman Sara Connor has had another year added to her sentence over the fatal assault of a Balinese police officer last August, her original four-year sentence being bumped up to five years on appeal.
