Re: Brit hit with shoe for complaining about too expensive beer.
The attacker told police that the coupl ... 7 eleven.
If this is the true story, and we will never know, then the Brit deserved everything he got.
I am so tired of guests coming into a 5-star hotel and then complaining that the beers on Pub Street are cheaper......

Foreign Couple Attacked by Bar Girl in Soi 8
She said that a group of foreigners had come drinking in the bar. But after the bill was added up a man refused to pay all of it because the bar was selling at a price higher than a convenience store.
She said she calmly explained to the tourist that this was, in fact, a beer bar and not a convenience store, and the prices were obviously going to be higher, the same as any other country. The customers still refused to pay full price, and Miss Pleumjai admitted that she lost her temper and proceeded to attack the customers https://pattayaone.news/en/foreign-couple-attacked/
So lets get this straight a 63 year old Brit takes his wife to a hostess bar in soy 8 Then gets annoyed because the beers are more expensive than 7 eleven I cant effing believe it. Seems he took the phrase "how stupid can you get?" as a challenge.
Here's the video, pity she didn't get some Tuk Tuk drivers to help her

Like I said: IF true, the stupid fcuk deserved at least two high heels. Hope his wife ditches him for being such a cheap bastard with very questionable tastes in venues suitable to take the Missus. Should have gone to the 7/11, buy the beer there and drink on the street; would have blended right in with all the other pathetic losers. So lets get this straight a 63 year old Brit takes his wife to a hostess bar in soy 8 Then gets annoyed because the beers are more expensive than 7 eleven I cant effing believe it. Just a beer bar
from the video it appears they walked off without paying. there VERY lucky it was a thai bar girl and not 3 thai boys , they would have gotten the sit kicked out of them.
Brits ,even here in phuket, Plus Italians and Russians are known for being cheap charlies...

From 1879 evidentlyfrank lee bent wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2017 3:13 am it has been called cholon since well before the American war, ask any vet who was there as a remf.
Cholon was incorporated as a city in 1879, 11 km from Saigon. By the 1930s, it had expanded to the city limit of Saigon. On 27 April 1931, Cholon and the neighbouring city Saïgon were merged to form a single city called ‘Saigon–Cholon’. The official name, however, never entered everyday vernacular and the city continued to be referred to as ‘Saigon’. ‘Cholon’ was dropped from the city's official name in 1956, after Vietnam gained independence from France in 1955. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholon,_Ho_Chi_Minh_City

How many?
What nationalities in general?
And why do you hide the drinks price list? Trying to make sausage money on the side or something?
I'm just glad you don't wear your high-heels to work.
Katface - I would look for a better history than Wiki iiwy. Also try researching when that area was founded, not just before the bloody French came and made everybody miserable.

Why should I need to do that? Your beginning to sound like a pesky teacher. What issue have you with the wiki summary, which I think is quite adequate for a forum reply. Did you read the summary, which draws on the book, a Historical Dictionary of Ho Chi Minh City by Justin Corfield. This is quite a reasonable source.
On his discussion about the Chinese in Vietnam around page 58 Corfield notes:
The collapse of the Ming Dynisty caused a large migration to Vietnam in the 1630's and 1640's and what is now Cholon became a large Chinese town, later merging with Saigon.
On his discussion of the origin of Cholon around page sixty he notes:
Although there had been a settlement there for many centuries, the origin of Cholon came from the Tay Son Rebellion, a peasant uprising in Vietnam from 1769 until 1802
The wiki summary (below) is quite succinct and seems fairly accurate. If one needs more detailed information on Cholon you can read Corfield a Historical Dictionary of Ho Chi Minh City p60-62.
The Vietnamese name Cholon literally means "big" (lớn) "market" (chợ). The Chinese name (and original name) of Cholon is 堤岸 (pronounced Tai-Ngon in Cantonese and Dī'àn in Mandarin, which means "embankment" (French: quais). The Vietnamese reading of the Chinese name is Đê Ngạn, but this is rarely used. Vietnamese speakers exclusively use the name Chợ Lớn, while Chinese speakers (both inside Vietnam and in China) are the only users of the original Chinese name.
In 1778, the Hoa (Chinese minority of Vietnam) living in Biên Hòa had to take refuge in what is now Cholon because they were retaliated against by the Tây Sơn forces for their support of the Nguyễn lords. In 1782, they were again massacred by the Tây Sơn and had to rebuild. They built high embankments against the flows of the river, and called their new settlement Tai-Ngon (meaning "embankment" in Cantonese).
I know your just trolling, but rather than ignore you I thought the extra information might be of interest to someone. Incidentally my ex wife is Vietnamese Chinese from Cholon
