Kampot: $18M ADB plan for new town and seaport.
Kampot seaport to boost tourism
Friday, 06 January 2017
Kampot province, which edges into the Gulf of Thailand, is set to be transformed into a tourist seaport with the construction of an $18 million marine ferry terminal funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), according to officials.
Soy Sinol, director of Kampot’s tourism department, told Khmer Times yesterday that the feasibility study and construction plans for the proposed seaport had been completed. “Bidding for the construction work will start this year and the port, with the marine ferry terminal, is set to be completed by the end of 2018 or early 2019,” said Mr. Sinol.
According to an ADB report on tourism in the Greater Mekong Subregion, the Kampot ferry terminal, to be located in Kampot’s Tek Chhou district, is expected to service 360,000 international and domestic tourists when it opens in 2018 and 442,000 by 2022.
He said the Kampot tourism department would be working with relevant government ministries to help develop a tourism complex on 200 hectares of land in the province.
“The new tourist area will be called ‘Kampot Thmey’ [New Kampot] and it will be connected to the new tourist seaport, with easy access to Kampot city.”...

If it's the one I drive past everytime going Kampot, it's quite a few KM out from the town.
At least it might mean the old town shouldn't get bombarded with new high rise hotels and fucking casino's like SHV has,
Hopefully not anyway!

New $23b Kampot resort
- The first large-scale international project slated for the region is called the French Riviera Marina; a project valued at $23.2 billion, which will be constructed along the coastal area of Kampot and Kep.
According to the developer, the Pallas Group, the French Riviera in Kampot will offer a secure ocean-side parkland community, consisting of hotels, villas, apartments, a water park, private and artificial beaches, a golf course, a marina, an amusement park and a shopping centre, among other facilities.
It will also play host to schools and a health centre and its parts will be interlinked by canals and cable cars.
The Pallas Group aims to make the southern province of Kampot into a world-class tourist destination. According to the company’s website, the site will occupy 6,056 hectares of land alongside the Gulf of Thailand, while company documents seen by Kyodo News also showed a planned smaller development in neighbouring Kep province that will cover 144 hectares.
Commenting on this project, Sok Ken, the founder of Kampot Property, said: “Kampot will soon become one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Cambodia, welcoming a lot of local and international tourists every year.
“The latest mega project, French Riviera Marina, represents a big boost to the province’s real estate transactions, with the prices of land climbing noticeably month-on-month".
In 2016, Kampot province welcomed about 900,000 foreign tourists and the proposed tourism seaport project will likely attract more foreign tourists to the province.
The $18-million tourism seaport due to come into service by 2019 is expected, according to a recent ADB report, to service 360,000 international and domestic tourists yearly when it opens, and 442,900 by 2020...

Re: Kampot: $18M ADB plan for new town and seaport.
All of these developments are planned for areas far from the historical Kampot town. Kampot was for a while the main port for Cambodia after Ha Tien was taken over. There was a dead straight road built by King Ang Duong between the then capital at Oudong and Kampot. It was recognized that Cambodia couldn't rely on river routes between occupied Vietnamese areas on the lower Mekong, a problem that became more obvious after independence. That's why the deepwater port was built in Kampong Som in the late 50s/early 60s.

- A $10 million tourist port sponsored by Asia Development Bank will start its construction by the end of 2017 and finish in 2019. The new tourist port located in Chumkreal Commune, Tek Chhu District, Kompot Province.
The site would attract 1.5 million tourists yearly and lead them to other amazing destinations across Cambodia. The record shown that for the first six months of 2017, Cambodia attracted 2 662 679 tourists in total including 89 525 tourist travelled by water increased 12.8% in comparison to last year.

Kampot attracted 900,000 foreign tourists last year? Ha ha ha. They just make these statistics up to suck in foreign investors, Chinese statistics are similar, its like a huge Ponzi scheme. The port work started over a year go, it looks pretty serious.
But to expect hotels, apartments and marinas is pie in the sky.

no marinas for sure, as Foreign registered yachts are not allowed into Cambodian waters anymore
900,000 but "The site would attract 1.5 million tourists yearly ", >> so 1/3rd of the tourists ( Almost 40% Chinese/Vietnamese/Korean) that arrive in Cambodia will head to Kampot ( FOR WHAT?))
