Things just keep getting worse and worse for Taiwanese flag manufacturers with Cambodia's prime minister now calling for a nationwide ban on flying the Republic of China flag.

On Saturday, during a speech in front of the Cambodian-Chinese Association, Prime Minister HE attempted to show his country's strong commitment to the "one China" policy by making an unusual demand.
“I request to people here: Please don’t raise the Taiwanese flag whenever you are gathering, even at the hotel during Taiwanese national holidays. It is not allowed,” the Cambodia Daily quoted him as saying. “We should not do anything that affects the respect of China’s sovereignty and independence through shaking hands and stepping on feet. I cannot do it.”

MOFA mum on HE’s flag remarks

‘ONE CHINA’:Lawmakers said the Cambodian leader’s comments might have been due to pressure from China, but the ministry’s spokeswoman was more circumspect

By Alison Hsiao and Chen Wei-han / Staff reporters, with CNA

The government has no comment on Cambodian Prime Minister HE’s remarks that the Republic of China’s (ROC) flag is banned from being raised in his country to “respect the sovereignty of China,” Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) spokeswoman Eleanor Wang (王珮玲) said yesterday.
According to the Cambodian Daily, HE reiterated his government’s support for Beijing’s “one China” principle during a dinner on Saturday hosted by the Cambodian-Chinese Association.

Cambodia bans Taiwan flag out of respect for ‘One China’ policy
By Asian Correspondent Staff | 7th February 2017 | @ascorrespondent

CAMBODIA’S prime minister said the Taiwanese flag has been banned because Cambodia follows the “One China” policy promoted by Beijing.

HE, in a speech to the Cambodian-Chinese Association posted on his Facebook page, said he welcomes investment from Taiwanese businessmen, but that respecting Chinese sovereignty means acknowledging Taiwan is a province of China.

He said in his remarks, delivered Saturday, that Taiwan’s flag shouldn’t be raised on its national day.

“We should not do anything that affects the respect of China’s sovereignty and independence through shaking hands and stepping on feet. I cannot do it,” HE said, as quoted by Cambodia Daily.

“We need to respect the sovereignty of China, which places the same value on respecting Cambodia’s sovereignty too.”
