Cambodian Tourists...

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

As tourism for SE Asian customers takes off, more and more Cambodians are interested in travelling, at home and abroad.

Cambodians Leave for Water Festival
The number of Cambodians leaving the country for the upcoming Water Festival has increased this year due to rising levels of disposable income and operators providing package tours.
Chan Diyan, sales manager at Top Asia Travel and Tour Company said yesterday that number of tour packages booked by Cambodians to foreign countries over the weekend and into next week had increased by 30 percent over last year.

“Cambodians who can afford our tour package fees are increasingly interested in travelling abroad during long holidays like Khmer New Year, Pchum Ben, and the Water Festival,” Mr. Diyan said.

While some two million Cambodians are expected to descend on Phnom Penh to enjoy the boat races, fireworks and festivities planned between Sunday and Wednesday, Sang Bunthy, general manager of Srey Rath International Travel and Tours, said that many of his clients were also looking to travel elsewhere in Cambodia...

Travel agencies confirm the trend of increasing numbers of Cambodians taking holidays abroad, mostly in Asian neighbouring countries. They note that Cambodians have a distinct preference for traveling in large groups with family and friends.

Tourism sees outbound growth

Cambodians are increasingly travelling both within their own country and abroad for leisure on rising disposable incomes and a social media-fuelled desire to explore new places, local tourism industry experts have said.

Speaking yesterday at a curtain-raiser for the upcoming Cambodia International Travel Fair, to take place in Phnom Penh next October, Thourn Sinan, chairman of the Cambodian chapter for the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) said there has been a steady increase in the number of Cambodians travelling in recent years.

“The number of Cambodians travelling is increasing year by year, and now they are not only travelling within the country, but also to neighbouring countries,” he said.

He said Thailand and Vietnam are the most-visited countries, followed by Singapore and Malaysia.

Ministry of Tourism data show the number of Cambodian outbound tourists topped 1.18 million for the period of January to October this year, a 20 percent increase over the same period last year.

According to figures obtained from the Ministry of Tourism in Thailand, 564,549 Cambodians visited the country in the first 10 months of 2016, compared with 433,352 for the same period in 2015, representing a 39 percent increase.

Sreat Mom Sophear, founder of Sophiya Travel & Tours, said her company organises more and more trips for Cambodians planning holidays abroad. She noted that Cambodians, compared with travellers from other countries in the region, prefer to travel in large groups, also contributing to a sharp increase in outbound tourists.

“Our peoples’ perception is that travelling is not a happy occasion if we don’t all go together,” she said. “So we see the number of outbound tourists now increasing significantly because of the trend of going in large groups.”...

As much as I appreciate family reunion road trips, come always the moment when too many passengers in every available cars make the all thing quite uncomfortable to me.

As for joining an extended family tourism abroad trip, thanks no thanks

Domestic Tourism Nearly Doubles in 10 Years
December 29, 2016

Growing steadily at a rate of 5 to 7 percent a year, the number of domestic tourists has nearly doubled over the past 10 years, new statistics from the Tourism Ministry show.

Home-grown tourists are estimated to reach about 10 million this year, boosted by travelers making multiple trips, according to preliminary data collected by the ministry’s statistics department. That is an increase of about 7 percent compared to last year...

Record tourists visit provinces
The three-day Lunar New Year saw a noticeable increase in the number of local and foreign tourists visiting provinces across the country due to better roads and transport links, said officials yesterday.

Rattanakiri provincial tourism department director Nget Pitou, in a report submitted to the Ministry of Tourism, said that the number of local tourists went up five percent at the start of the year to 18,211 from about 17,369 in January 2016.
“There was a noticeable increase in the number of Cambodians coming into the province from other cities during the Chinese New Year holidays,” he said in the report.

Mr. Pitou also said 520 foreign tourists visited Rattanakiri this month, and it was up by seven percent compared with January last year.

The ministry also received a report from Mondulkiri province, with the provincial tourism department recording 14,591 local tourists in the month of January, compared with 13,215 in the same month last year. The report stated that a record number of tourists visited the province during the Chinese New Year holidays.

The coastal provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep and Koh Kong also saw a huge influx of tourists during the three-day Lunar New Year festivities.

Taing Sochet Krisna, director of the Preah Sihanouk provincial tourism department, told Khmer Times that his province saw an influx of almost 83,000 tourists from Friday to Sunday – most of them being Cambodians.

Kampot also saw a record 83,683 visitors in the province during the three-day festivities, said Soy Sinol, the director of the provincial tourism department.
“Of the 83,683 visitors, 79,298 were domestic tourists,” he said.

Nearby Kep province reported to the Ministry of Tourism that it received 71,558 tourists during the Chinese New Year holidays – with 411 of them being foreigners.
The Koh Kong provincial tourism department reported an influx of 20,767 visitors during the festivities – of which 17,960 were locals.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

They are probably counting the total foreign arrivals, most probably just passing through.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I don't know how they measure these numbers. Sounds like bogus to me. Do they have some guy sitting on the side of the road keeping track of the people driving by?

Maybe I can help;
A previous life in touristy areas I learnt they all have a tourism bureau. Tourism Bureau's sole job is to conjure. What do they conjure? Numbers.

That's right, just numbers. Numbers are how they get $ to conjure.
They are not mathematicians.

And they have wellsprings of sources. # 1 :booty:
