"koah kshal" Rubbing away the sickness...

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

Did you feel better after did it?
yes it was good, i enjoyed the experience, ive always wanted to do it

Can you give us a run down on your experience ? How does it feel ? Does it hurt ? Make you sweat or what ?
Is it what you expected, and how does it make you feel better ?

it felt alright, but im used to getting tattoos and shit so im not sure on the pain threshold comparison
the longer it went on though it did become more painful
cant remember if it made me sweat or not but the tiger balm sure warms you up abit
yeah it was probably how i expected, at first i thought it was less painful than i was expecting, but after a while it became as to how you would expect
i did feel better, not in the cured kind of sense but the tigerbalm felt good and it was a nice distraction from my fever
although i did still feel ill the next day i did feel a bit fresher

Doesn't hurt much. Doesn't make me sweat. It's expected. I don't know how it makes me feel better, probably a placebo effect.

I came across these juicy traditional Cambodian recipes to cure asthma. They are all pretty radical and I don't think I'd be capable of swallowing stuff like this frankly.
https://ethnomed.org/resource/cambodian ... l-profile/
Cambodian Asthma Cultural Profile
The traditional Cambodian healer is the /krou k’mai/. One woman with asthma flew back home (to Cambodia) for two weeks to get treatment from a /krou k’mai/. She had to drink a blood-colored thick liquid and swallow baby mice 7 times to be cured. Her symptoms subsequently improved for 1 year. One man with asthma also saw a /krou k’mai/ in the Thai refugee camp who gave him a liquid to drink which consisted of red wine with /grong/ (big ant in tree with red color, an insect found in Cambodia), 7 toads which were fried/burned, and /tk gai/ which is a type of animal. This mixture has a sour taste and is taken 3-4 times/day. It is said to clean up the lungs. His wife reported that it could be found in the Cambodian grocery stores here (USA), but was very expensive ($300/jar). She had also heard of drinking blood from a black dog with wine to treat asthma.

I think I'd be more inclined to try it if it was being administered by a gaggle of scantily clad lovelies.
