Certainly some interesting figures here.

Tourism sector ‘needs 200K new workers’
Wed, 12 October 2016
Cheng Sokhorng

A Ministry of Tourism official announced yesterday that the country would need an additional 200,000 trained tourism professionals if it was to fulfil its target of receiving 7 million international tourists a year by 2020.

Try Chhiv, deputy director-general of the Ministry of Tourism, said the assessment of the industry’s needs was announced at a workshop held at the headquarters for the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia.

“In order to respond to the projections of 7 million international tourists in 2020, the ministry believes that the sector needs 200,000 more professionals,” he said. “Currently, we still have a shortage of skilled labour and resources related to tourism.”

Presently there are 620,000 Cambodians working in the tourism sector who facilitated the 4.8 million international arrivals last year, according to Chhiv.

“If we had between 800,000 to 1 million Cambodians trained in hospitality, we would be able to handle future growth,” he said...

“We need to strengthen our vocational training,” he said, adding that currently the country can only pump out 2,000 certified professionals a year...

In fact they are so interesting that I'm not sure I've got this right ???

Today 2016 - 620,000 Cambodians working in the tourist sector.
Currently training 2,000 a year.

By 2020 - need 200,000 more tourist workers.
200,000 divided by 4 years = need to train 50,000 workers a year for the next 4 years.

Two new tourism schools will be operational in Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville for the start of 2019, according to the Ministry of Tourism.

Tourism officials lay out plans for schools
Thu, 15 December 2016

Tourism Ministry officials outlined plans yesterday for two new vocational training facilities for the country’s growing tourism sector. Try Chhiv, deputy director general of the Ministry of Tourism, said the government will build the first school in Phnom Penh with a capacity of 1,000 students, while the second will be built in Sihanoukville for 300 students.

He added that the project was made possible thanks to an $11.7 million dollar loan from the French government. “We are now preparing construction plans and we expect the schools to be finished by the end of 2018 and for the training of students to start at the beginning of 2019,” he said, adding that a contractor for the project had not yet been selected.

The schools will focus on three areas of vocational training, preparing students to work as travel agency employees, tour guides and hotel services specialists, Chhiv said. He said the aim was to raise the skills standard of Cambodia’s tourism sector to match the requirements of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), allowing Cambodians to work throughout the region...

More tourists, less revenue
Wed, 25 January 2017

The Ministry of Tourism released its annual report yesterday during its yearly meeting, showing growth continued for the sector in 2016, while launching a campaign to eliminate unlicensed tourist establishments that ministry officials claim slowed revenue collection last year.

International tourism arrivals increased by 5 percent to surpass the 5 million mark in 2016, according to the report. However, total tourism revenue was down from the $3.5 billion recorded in 2015, amounting to $3 billion, or 13 percent of GDP.

Tourism business registrations increased by 5 percent while revenue from tourism licences inched up just 1 percent, the report showed.

By the end of 2016, there were 647 hotels, 1,996 guesthouses, 1,844 restaurants, 588 tourist agencies and 5,088 guides registered in the Kingdom, according to the figures.

During the meeting, Thong Khon, minister of tourism, unveiled a new campaign to improve regulation of the industry, consisting of a seven-step plan that starts with enhancing the management of business licences and strengthening revenue collection...
