Fire rips through five stalls at Otres Beach
A fire ripped through several French-owned stalls at Otres Beach in Sihanoukville yesterday afternoon, according to an official.
Preah Sihanouk provincial police chief Major General Chuon Narin told Khmer Times: “Five stores were destroyed by the flames and they all belong to French vendors.”
A police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “No injuries or deaths were reported and the cause of the fire was due to an electric spark from a generator.”
He said that during a power outage, vendors had to use a portable gas-powered generator to supply their stores with electricity.
“Unfortunately, when the generator was running, an electric spark came out and started the fire,” he said.
He added that provincial police officers needed 12 fire engines to put out the blaze, which started at about 3:20pm and was extinguished by 4:30pm.

The guy who owned Led Zephyr, now the jungle queef, said he spent 30 grand on fire prevention before he could get fire insurance. He was the only one on Beach Road that had fire extinguishers. More importantly he had sprinklers for the roofs, said he'd had to use them a number of times.

Fire Razes Five Minibar Shacks in Sihanoukville
by Van Roeun | January 6, 2017
Five thatched mini-bar shacks run by foreigners at one of Sihanoukville’s popular beaches went up in smoke on Thursday, and the German owner of one of the businesses was being sought on Friday, police said.
Seven fire trucks were dispatched to extinguish the fire on O’Tres beach, which poured smoke into the sky for a half an hour, as it was adjacent to the beach and spreading fast, Preah Sihanouk provincial police chief Chuon Narin said.
“The shacks were built with thatch roofs and bamboo and it was very windy. That was why the fire spread very fast,” he said.
The fire began when the German business owner started his generator, spilling gasoline that spread to the engine, sparking the blaze at about 3 p.m., Major General Narin said.
“Last night, a German owner fled and we are investigating to find him,” Mr. Narin said, adding that he did not know the German owner’s name...

Resort Owner Questioned Over Beach Fire
by Phan Soumy | January 11, 2017
The German owner of a beachside Sihanoukville resort that burned to the ground in a massive fire that also destroyed four nearby businesses was released after questioning, police said on Tuesday.
The fire on Thursday at O’Tres Beach started at the Elephant Garden, a restaurant and bungalow accommodation whose owner was identified on Facebook as Marc Bosselmann. The owner was tracked down at a friend’s restaurant in the city’s Ochheuteal Beach area on Friday, and was questioned but not arrested, said Bou Sothy, deputy police chief in Preah Sihanouk province, who is in charge of the city’s fire department.
“We haven’t arrested him because we sought advice from a prosecutor and the prosecutor said we don’t have reasons or evidence to fully inculpate him,” Mr. Sothy said. “He said he also didn’t know about the fire; it happened accidentally.”
A damage estimate has not yet been released for the businesses razed in the fire, which provincial police chief Chuon Narin said on Friday had started when the Elephant Garden’s owner spilled gasoline near a generator and quickly spread through the thatched roof and bamboo structures. Police identified the other burned businesses as the Otres Sailing Club, Banana Beach Bar, Little Dodo and Eataly, a pizza restaurant...

Re: Fire at Otres Beach 2, Sihanoukville.
Hello,
I wondering, how is the current situation on Otres 2 Beach, because of the fire at the beginning of this year.
Are the resorts, which were damaged still rebuild?
