Sexually abusive father released without charges.
Everyone has the right to be presumed innocent until found guilty, but in this case the suspect was reportedly freed without trial and without charges, despite the accusations of sexual abuse from his two daughters. It is telling that all the officials involved strenuously deny knowing anything about anything.
Sexually Abusive Father Freed
Sangke district police chief Sun Sovann said the two children complained that their father [37yo Proeung Vann] drunkenly yelled at them and sexually abused them periodically, despite numerous complaints from their mother, who is working in Thailand.
“They have four children and the mother took two children to live with her to work along the border because the husband was always drunk and always beat her,” he said.
“She left the two daughters to stay at home with the father. One is 11 and one is 14.
“He always beats the two daughters, takes off their clothes and touches their private parts.”
Mr. Sovann denied that police released the man after questioning, but he did not know where the suspect was and no officers in any police station in the province could verify his whereabouts.
“He was already sent to court three days ago. There was no case that we released him,” Mr. Sovann said.
Yet Touch Sopheakdey, the Battambang Provincial Court spokesman, said Mr. Vann’s case was “probably all managed” and refused to give any details about the alleged court trial or where the suspect was.
In his brief statement to Khmer Times, he inferred that the case had already been settled and that the man had been released, seemingly without any punishment.
