Actress goes to social media for justice after severe beating.
Another high-profile beating is making the rounds on social media. Despite the outrage, the well-connected ex-boyfriend will probably just pay ''damages'' and walk away. The police do not seem interested, but you can hardly blame them for not wanting to take on the rich and powerful. No spoiler on the photo, because some ugly things need to be seen and not hidden away.
An outraged public yesterday called for the brother-in-law of timber tycoon Try Pheap to be prosecuted after damning pictures of his former girlfriend, actress Pich Aviza, went viral.
The images depicted the star as apparently beaten, with bloody cuts on her swollen face and bruises covering her arms and legs.
Local media reports alleged that Kean Heng, brother to the wife of Pheap, brutally beat Pich Aviza on Sunday night at a club in Sihanoukville. She was hospitalised due to the injuries. In an emotional Facebook post yesterday, Pich A Viza wrote: “I have suffered for these two years but this violent case has ended and it is OK.”
Heng, on his Facebook page, urged people to stop sharing the shocking images.
“Today my family and Mei’s family, have agreed to compromise . . . without filing a complaint against each other,” he wrote, using a nickname for Pich Aviza. “So please all media and brothers and sisters be informed that because the case between me and honey Mei has ended, please stop sharing [the photos].”
Sihanoukville city police chief Phol Phorsda said he was aware of the high-profile allegations but no evidence had been uncovered thus far. “We have investigated and we have found nothing,” he said...

In a strange twist, the Sihanoukville prosecutor has opened a case against the alleged aggressor. It seems that FB is the way to get things done in the KOW.
Prosecutor Pursues Actress’ Assault Case
The Preah Sihanouk Provincial Court yesterday charged the brother-in-law of timber tycoon Try Pheap with assaulting his ex-girlfriend, actress Pich Aviza, after images of her battered face were circulated online.
Court spokesperson Huot Vichet said the prosecutor decided to charge Kean Heng, the brother of Mr. Pheap’s wife, for intentional acts of violence with aggravating circumstances, despite Ms. Aviza not filing a complaint with police.
Both Mr. Heng and Ms. Aviza were called in by provincial authorities for further investigation.
“We arrested both of them from Lek Buon commune and handed them over to the commissioner in charge of crimes.
“We asked them to investigate according to procedure, even if there is no complaint,” provincial police chief Chuon Narin said...

Hanno, I experienced the same "WTF" moment. Possibly, but hopefully not for failing to report a crime, " despite Ms. Aviza not filing a complaint with police."
I would prefer to believe that the translation of the Cambodian for "arrest" was slightly off or else reflects a different police procedure.

As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

''the brother-in-law of timber tycoon Try Pheap ,
What if anything does Try Pheap have to do with this alleged crime. Was he a witness to this event, a participant, perpetrator?
Cambodian National Enquirer. Sensationalism at it's best.

^^ That is exactly what Try Pheap himself has said. "Why do you have to keep mentioning my name?"
Sensationalism. Yes!
