working in Australia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

So I will be away for a few months- at least - hopefully enjoying the high salaries of Oz.

yes.

And the high taxes, high expenses, high cost of accommodation.

A $30K income in Cambodia gives you a far better standard of living than a $120k income in Australia IMHO.

Depends on whether you like clean air, no rubbish and good fishing. I am astounded at how generous the Australian government is. They are going to give me more than $20,000 a year for two scruffy Cambodian children. I couldn't get bugger all for them in Cambodia.
And they get free schooling, free medical and free dentistry. No wonder people get on leaky boats to come to the lucky country.
When I raised a kid we got about 2/6 a week for family benefit. This is how Howard kept winning elections.

The damn liberals just scrapped the schoolkids bonus though.

That's going to hurt the bottom line of the urban meth dealers.
