Yeah, that place out 'there'. Anything not really Cambodia related should go here.

The photos, released by Human Rights Watch, are before-and-after views of three villages in embattled Maungdaw district.

YANGON - Myanmar's Rakhine state was hit by fresh waves of violence over the weekend with more than 30 "insurgents" killed during two days of fighting, the military said, as proof emerged of atrocities against villagers...

Most Burmese - even sane and decent ones - detest them and say aloud that they ought to "go back to Bangladesh."

[FROM THE REPORT QUOTED]
There now are questions about the ability of the government headed by Aung San Suu Kyi to control the military.
The leader has not been heard from in days, and criticism has mounted at her refusal to speak out for protecting
the Rohingya - whom she calls Bengalis.

There are people in Hungary who call for the local gypsies (Roma) to be "repatriated to India."

In Bulgaria, Mr Sidorov of the ATAKA Party suggested that the local gypsies ought to be boiled down to make glue.

And your point is what ? Volen Siderov is an far-right nutter who thinks the Masons rule the world and they are all out to get Bugaria and exterminate Bulgarians. He is an extreme Bulgarian nationalist who wants to get rid of ''Jews, Gypsies,Turks, homosexuals and 'foreigners'.'' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volen_Siderov

But what has this got to do with Myanmar ? :fool:

The point, if any, was that Burma is not alone in having a long-established minority which is - at the very least - disliked and distrusted by many (most?) of the
majority population.

Gypsies have been in Eastern and Central Europe since the Muslim invasions, having come as coppersmiths, saddlers and horse-dealers, among other trades*.

In the years of "Real Existing Socialism" in Bulgaria, promising young Roma were strongarmed/frogmarched all the way though to higher education. When the
Great Change came, most slid back into comparative poverty. The Roma of Bulgaria are over-represented in orphanages, juvenile custody and the prison system.

* Including the Ursini, a hereditary sort-of-caste of people who made a living exhibiting dancing bears in cities throughout the country.
Some years ago no less a personage than Brigette Bardot provided the cash to have these wretched bears - all of which had been castrated,
de-toothed and de-clawed by their Ursini owners - rounded up and housed in a retirement home for former dancing bears.

Memory at fault:

The Ursari are now - mercifully - a fading memory in Bulgaria

I have a few Burmese friends. The gentlest, intelligent people that would not harm a fly. But don't get them started on the Rohingya!!! I guess decades of agitation against them by the government, and Monks, have left their mark.

And a Burmese monk heads a militant xenophobic organisation ...

... which yet again goes to show (hardly necessary...) that 'Real' Buddhism in its countries of origin is very different from California Buddhism.

Aung San Suu Kyi accuses international community of stoking unrest in Myanmar

Leader says outsiders are ‘concentrating on the negative side’ of what the UN and Malaysia claim is ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya Muslim minority.
Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi accused the international community on Friday of stoking resentment between Buddhists and Muslims in the country’s northwest, where an army crackdown has killed at least 86 people and sent 10,000 fleeing to Bangladesh.

Aung San Suu Kyi appealed for understanding of her nation’s ethnic complexities, and said the world should not forget the military operation was launched in response to attacks on security forces that the government has blamed on Muslim insurgents...

Her comments come as Malaysia said Myanmar’s treatment of the Rohingya amounted to “ethnic cleansing”.
“The fact that only one particular ethnicity is being driven out is by definition ethnic cleansing,” Malaysia’s foreign ministry said in a statement...

Wirathu silenced by Myanmar's top Buddhist body
A Myanmar monk infamous for his bilious anti-Muslim tirades has been banned from giving sermons for a year by the country's top Buddhist body, an unprecedented slapdown on a man whose hate speech has galvanised religious tensions.

Wirathu, a monk once dubbed the "face of Buddhist terror", has led calls for restrictions on Myanmar's Muslim population, penning hyperbolic speeches warning of an Islamic takeover of the overwhelmingly Buddhist country.

Myanmar is gripped by deepening religious tensions that have repeatedly spilled into violence.

The unrest has been partially attributed to anti-Muslim rhetoric spread by Wirathu's wing of Buddhist monks.

Aung San Suu Kyi's government is under strong international pressure to explain a bloody crackdown on the Muslim Rohingya minority in Rakhine state over recent months.

The February assassination of Ko Ni, a respected and high-profile Muslim lawyer and long-time Suu Kyi ally, also heightened tensions.

Wirathu, who draws large crowds to his stock-in-trade Islamophobic speeches or social media posts, had already been barred from speaking at an event shortly after Ko Ni's murder.

But a special meeting of the country's most senior monks - the State Sangha Maha Nayaka - on Friday decided to ban all of his sermons.

"As he has repeatedly delivered hate speech against religions to cause communal strife and hinder efforts to uphold the rule of law" the monk "was banned from delivering sermons across Myanmar for one year from March 10, 2017 to March 9, 2018", the council said in a statement that emerged on Saturday. ..

wouldn't it be a good idea for the Rohingya to renounce their Religion and convert to Buddhism.....either that or move to saudi arabia, they take in muslim refugees from everywhere don't they?.....countries should ban Islam ...it causes nothing but trouble.
