Investigation into pig trafficking ends in a beating.

A reporter who requested anonymity told Khmer Times yesterday that the reporters were trying to do a story on pigs being imported from Thailand to that farm, which was suspected of importing both live and dead pigs, posing a potential health hazard...
Khmer Times could not reach the farm owner or the Sampov Loun district police chief for comment yesterday about both the accusations of importing dead pigs and the alleged violence.
Ouk Savin, deputy director of the department of animal health and production at the Ministry of Agriculture, told Khmer Times on Wednesday that commercial farms were selling cheap live pigs that were not bred in Cambodia and imported from neighboring Vietnam and Thailand.
“Cambodia cannot ban imported pigs from neighboring countries. But we cannot allow big farms to illegally get these pigs from across the border without paying taxes,” said Ms. Savin. “We want to get rid of live pig imports but we can’t because that will create a short-supply of pork in the country.”...
