Wouldn't it be better to grow them from tissue culture plugs? If such a way of propagation exists for dates. And, preferably, a non-fruiting selection. These fruits are a mess and require difficult maintenance for ornamental plantings.

A bag was bought and a trial will be made starting this week.

PUZZLING NEWS: Two growing date palms and three growing mangoes have burst out of the SIDES of their party cups,
ignoring clear orders to grow vertically.

A few mangoes - planted one to each party cup - are pushing up two trees-to-be and one is pushing up three trees-to-be
There's just no way to keep a good mutant down. 3 trees from one? Throw the rest away and keep the mutants. There's a beautiful future ahead.

If you analyze the soil where they grow well and made up a sufficient amount to throw in a very large pot for the first few years and grow them under glass and protected from over watering they should do well no? There really isn't anything one can't grow anywhere nowadays.

Mangoes often produce seed which is polyembryonic. Meaning they are like the Octomom.

If any reader here would like to be GIVEN a young date palm tree (Siem Reap only) this would be happily done.

The second, and subsequent, trees would be for sale on a commercial basis.

Is anyone interested and desirous of owning a young date palm?

If so, I can specify a time / place in Siem Reap to meet - somewhere easy enough to find, like THE IVY GUEST HOUSE

Her Indoors / She Who Must Be Obeyed has gotten hold of the idea that young (6+ months) date palms can be sold for $5 - $15
to people who want something more interesting in their gardens than lemongrass, so the current growing seedlings, now numbering
over 100, are being dutifully watered every second day.

I wonder how many will survive. Fairly easy to get seedlings but difficult to make the plants hold up. Is there a reason they wouldn't make it in this climate? Too wet? Or should be OK?

Cool. Seedlings or already well established? Do you know if they're growing them for fruit or decorative purposes?
