Swiss Tourist Daniel Georg Zurcher Commits Suicide at Moona Hotel in Phnom Penh

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Phnom Penh: The dead body of Daniel Georg Zürcher was found in his Moona Hotel room by staff.

He checked in on May 26 and asked hotel staff to help him get prescription drugs to help him sleep.

On May 30 he hadn't come out of his room so the hotel staff went to check on him and found him dead on his bed with a krama around his neck in an apparent suicide.

Police believe his suicide was a combination of prescription medications and strangulation.

There is also something that looks like a cord/string tied around his feet, holding them together.

Daniel Zürcher was born on February 2, 1970 in Trubschachen, Switzerland.

I'm guessing that strange-looking string on his legs is some new age yoga thingy. He sells that stuff from Koh Samui, Thailand.

It kind of seems like he told his friends and family 3 days ago that he was going off to a meditation retreat and wouldn't be able to contact the outside world, but then he somehow ends up killing himself in a hotel room in Cambodia instead.

Got a link for this General?
PM it to me please.
News site I'm reading speculates it could be murder, and the drugs sound heavier than sleeping medicine.

Swiss Man Found Dead in a Hotel Strangled and with his Legs Tied: However Police Say it’s a Suicide

Phnom Penh: The body of a Swiss man was discovered lying dead on a bed in a room 105, on the first floor of Moona Hotel. He was found at dusk in the evening of the 30th of May. This hotel is located on Street 1986, Sen Sok

According to the written essentials (check in details) of the above man, the dead man is called ZurcherDaviel Georg (sic.), 46 years old, Swiss, who arrived in Cambodia as a tourist.

The body of victim was discovered face up on a bed in room 205 which he was staying in, also on the body was a small thin karma tightened around his neck, as for his legs, both were tied together with a cord.

Colonel Mak Hong, a police inspector at Sen Sok police inspectorate, said that this case, according to the deductions of the skilled police who had inspected the body, was death by hanging of the neck killed by himself (he committed suicide) and he had over injected an injectable drug into his veins The police have taken a urine sample of the deceased to test to see what drug he had injected into his blood.

According to non-official conjecture and judging by the state of the body of the deceased it is more likely to be murder; that is the victim was killed and robbed and then a krama was tied around the neck of the victim to create a false trail for the police and lead them to infer that this was a case of suicide (killing himself) with the victim leaving a little bit of money in his pockets.
But what is most strongly puzzling is that if the victim killed himself, why is the body lying face up on the bed with a satisfied expression on his face and, furthermore, with his legs tied together?

Yeah it sounds like some foul play was involved or at a minimum possible assisted suicide?

No graphic at all, actually. Everything blurred except for the part where his legs are tied together with something. That's just odd.
