PP is ready for 133 storey twin towers - tallest building in SEA.

Agree, but not everyone can be a electrical or structural engineer, so they took the best opportunity in front of them and made a decent living out of it. Whatever you think of Singapore, they earned themselves a lot better salary than moving onto the next local job! Wasn't saying tying re-bar was particularly skilled, just merely pointing out that there was some positives for some locals involved, probably.bolueeleh wrote:re bar tying guys r skilled workers its like saying hole diggers r skilled workers too, as for singapore is so fucked up that they will take any blokes who hv half a brain n work for pittanceDAFA wrote: One example being the re-bar tieing guys, who actually earned themselves jobs in Singapore as a result of the project and probably earned way more than they would have in years by doing a short stint over there.

yes i do agree that they found a way to make more money for their family, good for them (but not necessarily a better environment tho, i hv seen first hand too the living quarters of these migrant workers in sgp, they r better off in cambodia honestly), as for skilled workers part, not yet, for skilled workers part, i need jamie to explainDAFA wrote:Agree, but not everyone can be a electrical or structural engineer, so they took the best opportunity in front of them and made a decent living out of it. Chinese Firm to Build 133-Story Twin Towers
by Van Roeun | December 31, 2016
A consortium led by Sino Great Wall International won a $2.7 billion contract on Thursday to build 133-story twin commercial skyscrapers in Phnom Penh, a five-year project that would make them among the world’s tallest buildings, officials said.
The Phnom Penh contract will come into effect once the consortium, which includes Sino Great Wall International and another Chinese company, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry, finalizes the funding, according to Reuters.
In a filing to the Chinese stock exchange in Shenzhen, Sino Great Wall said construction was expected to take about 60 months.
The Thai Boon Roong Group had previously received approval for the project—a mix of a hotel, offices and condominium space— to be built on 5 hectares of prime real estate across from the NagaWorld casino.
Phnom Penh municipal governor Pa Socheatvong said on Friday that the project plan was being reviewed again by the Ministry of Land Management.
“We are recorrecting the plan because the land is close to the riverside. So we have to be careful, especially with its depth,” Mr. Socheatvong said.
Seng Lot, a spokesman for the Ministry of Land Management, could not be reached for comment on Friday...

Jesus... I love how construction is basically fuelled not by actual local demand, but by Chinese citizens wanting to buy land abroad. I almost wish it stalls and becomes another Gold Tower 42.

So, that place was never finished? They were sort of working on it back when I lived near there about 6 years ago.I almost wish it stalls and becomes another Gold Tower 42.

City Hall not told of twin towers deal
Phnom Penh city officials have been kept in the dark over the billion-dollar twin tower project, initiated by local real-estate company Thai Boon Roong (TBR) Group, after it was reported last week that the company signed a contract with two Chinese companies.
According to China’s state-run Xinhua news agency, TBR signed a $2.7 billion contract with the Wuhan-based Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group and Macao-based Sun Kian Ip Holding on Saturday to build the TBR Twin Tower World Trade Center, which is intended to be the tallest building in Southeast Asia.
However City Hall vice-governor and spokesperson Mean Chanyada told Khmer Times that since the launch of the project early last year, the municipality has not received any updates or information from the company...

Even if this goes ahead it will never be the tallest in SEA - there are taller towers planned: two in KL, and one each in Bangkok, Jakarta and Manila.Barang chgout wrote:The guy with the biggest erection wins?

Start on twin towers project delayed but still going ahead
2 August 2017
Construction of the 133-storey, $2 billion Thai Boon Rong Twin Towers in the heart of Phnom Penh, which was due to start early this month, is running behind schedule.
An architect with the project said a comprehensive plan has not yet been finalised.
