Siem Reap Bar Owner Guilty Of Sexually Abusing Children
by Janelle Retka | December 16, 2016

A Siem Reap City bar owner and real estate developer was convicted last week in Australia of 10 counts of sexual abuse involving children and had his bail revoked, according to court records.

Anthony Munro, 71, was arrested on his return to his home country after living for at least six years in Siem Reap City, where he owned the Station Wine Bar and developed a nearby luxury condominium complex.

In 2014, Siem Reap police and child protection group Action Pour Les Enfants opened an investigation into Mr. Munro over the alleged sexual abuse of two boys, according to Samleang Seila, the organization’s country director. The case is ongoing.

During a hearing at the Adelaide Magistrates Court in August, Mr. Munro confessed to sex crimes involving numerous victims on South Australia’s Kangaroo Island, Rapid Bay and in the Glenelg suburb between 1965 and 1983.

He remained on bail, however, until a hearing before Judge Paul Slattery at the District Court of South Australia last Friday, where he was convicted of all 10 counts and was placed in custody, court records show.

Mr. Munro is set to appear before the judge again on February 20 to submit evidence and be sentenced.

According to his lawyer, Stephen Ey, Mr. Munro is likely being held in the Yatala Labor Prison in Adelaide, the state’s capital. Mr. Ey said his client would likely receive “a significant term of imprisonment,” but he would not be more specific.

“We are realistic that he is going to get an immediate term in prison, and that is why we asked that our bail be canceled last Friday, so he starts serving his sentence,” he said on Thursday...

A pretty thorough and accurate account by Janelle of the background to why we went after Munro. Of course his lawyer's comments re him not being involved in the Beaumont case are far from unexpected, they count for little given he's paid to say that. People are lining up to dig that well and then, only then, police will be able to rule it out. 50 years and cops haven't solved this case... they should not stand in the way of anyone who tries. Police are paid to do a job... they earn respect by doing their job.

This doesn't sound very promising though
Nonetheless, Sgt. Sheridan said, “We obviously take it very seriously” and have conducted “three independent inquiries” into the claims against Mr. Munro and Max in the Beaumont case. That will likely be where it ends, he said.
Sgt. Sheridan almost sounds like he doesn't want to find the truth
“There is no crime scene. There is no clues. There’s nothing to submit for DNA analysis. This is a case that won’t be solved by technology.”
He needs to start digging. Literally.

Any chance that someone higher up is holding things up? (Waiting for a few colleagues to die off first).

From the CD article:
While they want to dig up the well, their father, Max, who has Alzheimer’s and lives in an assisted care facility, according to a family friend, has so far refused permission.
AFAIK, if a person has Alzheimer's then legally they are not in a position to give or withhold permission for anything because they are not considered to be of sound mind. So who is looking after his affairs and making the decisions ?

I am Max McIntyres youngest daughter from his second marriage. My father sexually abused me from a very young age. This abuse was severe and sadistic. Since 2007 my two eldest surviving siblings and I went to the authorities in our state to have our abuse acknowledge d and our father incarcerated. It was also in 2007 that we collectively alerted both state and federal police that our fathers friend Anthony Munro was also a paedophile. Nothing was done about Munro until 2016.

I believe that both australian federal police and south australian police should be held accountable for continuing to allow Anthony Munro continue to travel to and from Australia and Cambodia despite Munros status as a convicted paedophile. My father Max remains a free man despite the corroborating anecdotal evidence of three of his children that he is an incestuous paedophile, mass murderer and procurer of child pornography.

I am sick of having to revert to media sources to have this issue professionally investigated. The way that the south Australian police have treated myself and siblings beggars belief. The (now defunct) Police Complaints Authorities only role was to protect its senior officers from prosecution. At least one of those PCA officers who chose to ignore my allegations of police misconduct in 2012 now works for the SA police ombudsman. I know this because I made a complaint about his misconduct to the police ombudsman.

Confoundingly, this officer was allowed to make a determination (on the Police Ombudsman's behalf) not to investigate my allegations against his deplorable statement to me (whilst he was still at the PCA) that I had been 'dealt with'. It is obvious to me now that sa police do not want to solve the cold cases my father is responsible for. Back in the 1990's the sa police ran 'operation Deny'. During this operation in Australia there was also a sister police operation in England called 'operation Red Tag'. Both operations investigated a child sex trafficking organisation of well organised paedophiles operating between the two countries.

In 2012 I was given a letter, written by my father and addressed to the same Senior Sargeant David Sheridan quoted in Janelle Retkas 'Murder, Buried' article. In this letter my father asks that i be 'red tagged, as police once did'. I believe my father not only holds vital evidence regarding child abduction cold cases in south Australia, but in England as well. At present, one of my sisters has power of attorney over our fathers affairs. She also stands to inherit the property on which the well exists where my older brother and sister believe the Beaumont's are buried. This sibling with power of attorney doesn't want the well dug up.

I have alleged since 2012 that another of my fathers properties (now owned by a niece) also holds the human remains of one of my fathers murder victims. I saw this girl murdered and buried on this suburban adelaide property. A conviction was recently secured for this girls murder. This is the second time sapol has secured a conviction for this young girls murder against the wrong man (the man originally convicted of her murder was acquitted on appeal in 1985, as mentioned above.) I believe that the second man convicted of her murder this year will also be acquitted on appeal, if he can secure one. He didn't kill this poor girl, Max did. Speaking up about these issues is dangerous.

One of our sisters, who was also a witness to the Beaumont children in the boot of our fathers car, died in very strange circumstances in 2009, a month after telling family members that someone was trying to kill her. Somehow, the coroner ruled her death a suicide. Despite the protests of myself and siblings no inquest was ordered. We continue to do whatever we can to have justice served. I think my eldest sister (quoted in Janelle's article) is correct in saying that sapol want these matters to remain buried. Their conduct towards us thus far reeks of corruption. No other explanation makes sense.

An interesting, if horrific story. Not sure what to make of it.

So the sister who stands to inherit the property where bodies are allegedly buried is opposed to any digging to exhume the remains?

Stuff here for a novelist!

Try re-reading the whole text.

How many sisters, living and dead, are part of this woeful tale?

Presumably the recent conviction she is referring to is the Louise bell case that concluded recently.

The conviction was based on DNA evidence as well as anecdotal admissions.

Given the press coverage of the trial I would have to presume the judge arrived at the correct verdict.
