A hundred dollars? That's outrageous, a hundred and fifty would be OK though. Those Huawei people are really cheap, selling half price phones. Apple would have offered two hundred, surely.

Lol yes it was front page news in the CD print edition... although you only made it to page 2.General Mackevili wrote:Haha, ^nice find! Glad to see this story getting so much attention, and funny that none of the sites that removed it admit to getting any compensation.

I'm most shocked and disappointed to see the Daily capitalising the word "NEVER" for emphasis.
A real low point for the press in Cambodia.

that guy is probably just going to get a reprimand. but its always nice to see the untouchables get humbled a bit.
i'm actually more interested in who he called to get those articles removed. there's always a few generals behind a rich dude for him to act cocky like that.

Haha, that was in QUOTES, so I'm afraid the blame is on me. Be glad I left out the usual "LoLs" and "HAHAHAs."Rama wrote:I'm most shocked and disappointed to see the Daily capitalising the word "NEVER" for emphasis.

Huawei Backs Away From Crash Involving Executive
by The Cambodia Daily | December 1, 2016
Chinese technology giant Huawei publicly distanced itself on Wednesday from a crash involving a senior executive accused of plowing his sports car into three tuk-tuks and a motorcycle in Phnom Penh last week and fleeing the scene.
In response to a query on the incident involving Kevin Weng, which was notable for the disappearance of news coverage posted by Khmer-language media outlets following the November 23 wreck, Huawei Technologies (Cambodia) issued a brief statement: “Alleged traffic incidents involving our staff outside work hours are a matter for the staff, and not an issue for Huawei to comment on. If approached, we will cooperate with any official queries.”

Re: Chinese Expat Kevin Weng (CTO of Huawei Cambodia & Laos) Crashes BMW i8 into 2 Tuk-Tuks in Phnom Penh
Well, Kevin Weng's LinkedIn profile still shows him as the Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Technologies Cambodia & Laos.
I guess crashing your BMW i8 into Tuk-Tuks while you're drunk is OK by Huawei's standards.
You think Huawei would release some sort of public apology instead of just telling the press, "well, what happens when he's not at work is none of our concern."
I noticed in Kevin Weng's job description as Deputy Director of Huawei it says he's responsible for "PUBLIC RELATIONSHIP." Drunk driving in your host country and injuring locals can't be good for public relationship, can it?

Mr Weng's LinkedIn profile address has Chinese characters in it (翁科峰). I didn't know you could do that.

Will Cambodia Daily go for the trifecta and do a third story on this?

We'll let Scobie do the interview this time. The Cambodia Daily and Vice Magazine have worn me out this past month.Cam Nivag wrote:Will Cambodia Daily go for the trifecta and do a third story on this?
