Monkey Mark's, Steak Heaven
Monkey Mark's, Steak Heaven
I'd heard about this little bar in Snooky, but could never really find it. A friend took my there and told me about the Rib-eye steak dinner for $12.50. Mark''s a real friendly guy and the bar is real cosy with a big screen TV behind the bar.
You most times have to order your steak a day ahead of time. A friend and I order the steak and showed up the next night. To say the steak was great is an understatement. It was thick, juicy and cooked just right. Parts of the steak I could almost cut with my fork! It came with two vegs, bread/butter and potatos/gravy.
This is the best steak I've had in Cambodia and rivals steaks I get in Singapore or Mike's is better.
Take a right at Orange market, follow the road as it goes left then right and Mike's is on the right after the second curve before the third curve that dumps you out on the main road. . Very small sign outside so easy to miss.
BTW/ I've heard his burger is as good as his steaks. Will update when I try it

I'm forever in your debt SM. Best steak I've had in SEA and the silver and the bronze cost 3 or 4 X as much. Great people too.

Slightly easier directions - heading towards town from Lion roundabout, take your 1st left where the Sunday Guesthouse sign is. Go past Sunday Guesthouse for about 50 mts and the road takes a 90 degree turn to the right. About 20mts after the bend the green fence on the left is Marks place. Mark and his manager Paddy are great hosts and HUGE F1 fans.Mark usually puts on a free BBQ on F1 days also. A hidden gem that used to be basically invite only, but as long as you arent a fukwit is now open to most expats.

^^^ Where does Monkey come into the equation?
Re: Monkey Mark's, Steak Heaven
He kept monkeys he had saved.
Re: Monkey Mark's, Steak Heaven
I stopped in for another Rib-eye last night at Mark's and it was just as wonderful as the first. He sent his monkeys to a place that rehabs monkeys, but is getting one back (and he built a new cage), because she missed the bar and couldn't be set free. You can take the girl out of the bar, but you can't take the bar out of the girl.
This is a really hidden gem of a place. And the music videos/concerts on the flat screen TV with dinner are an added extra. I'm going back tomorrow to try his burger as my neighbor said it was the best he has ever eaten, if its anything like the ribeye I can believe it.

Since I really liked the Rib-Eye steak, I stopped into Mark's a couple days ago and got a cheeseburger to go. It wasn't a cheeseburger, it was a Monster! The meat was thicker than the total of some burgers I've seen and had great taste. I said I wanted everything on it and they did. Onion, tomato, fried egg, lettuce, mayo, cheese, bacon, etc. and was on a nice toasted Kaiser roll. It was so big I made two meals out of it. The fries were hand cut potato and what we in America call jo-jo fries or steak fries. (none of those nasty frozen crinkle fries.)
Looking at the burger reminded me of the cartoon strip from years ago "Blondie." Dagwood Bumstead would make giant sandwich's piled so high that it would be impossible to get your mouth around.

Re: Monkey Mark's, Steak Heaven
you better buy a share in the biz daddyo.
sihanoukville could use more good back home eats.
mark from tyler texas seems to be able to sling the old hash pretty successfully without even being in actual business.
i cant believe no one make masa fresh. closest dam tortilleria is in thailand-
and you already know abt arbol, serrano and poblano.
caint get you no good chili powder in asia.
quality always wins and is often profitable.
