As your query has got nothing whatsoever to do with cheap places to eat, which is what the thread is about, maybe better to start a new thread about cheap accommodation ?

Just throwing this out there, I think the weekday daily specials at Snookys pretty much beat all as far as quality, portion, and value. Recently had the BBQ chicken kabobs, and they were really good. Two with chicken and vegetables with good BBQ sauce, fried rice, potato salad, and a green salad. Three dollars for the meal, which includes either a bottled water, draft beer, or a glass of wine.

For you out of towners. Where to eat when you go to SV. Romdoul's: Victory Hill, restaurant street, at the end of the street. Can't miss it, it's full of Russians.
Romdouls stuffed squid is to die for. I don't go there anymore coz I got pissed off once too many times, but don't let that stop you. Their food is great, service not so much but hey...

And all the meals are $2-3 so you can order plenty. 50c beer. :thumb: SV.

I got sick on Romdoul's food twice and stopped eating there. It was good cheap food, but wasn't worth my health. The hygiene in the kitchen is probably why I got sick or leaving food setting around and a landing pad for flys.

I used to eat at Romdouls once or twice a week. Could order at the counter, ask how long to cook, (usually 20 to 30 mins depending how busy), once they knew me they would have it ready when i came back at the stated time. Always gave them a tip when they do this! The Chicken Schnitzel or the Cordon Bleu is massive and they do a great potato salad. Someone tells me the pork chop is top too! Sitting inside waiting for 20 mins or more is no option as it's like a sauna in there, they need to buy more fans, even for outside. I would gladly pay more if they did. If you get an outside table you are lucky, many loud Russians use and fill this place as it's cheap but good value. Don't think they would deliver, they just too busy, and they have forgot my order more than a couple of times. Although never poisoning me, and with my guts have been lucky, I know if I dared to look closely in the kitchen I would never go again.

Plus the place is disgustingly filthy front & back. But.. yes I eat breakfast there occasionally. The service can be rude, indifferent or go fuk yurself. I think dependent on owners cocks winning or losing nite before. He is happy to show you his fighting cocks. Quite handsome.

Across the road from Romduol's is the Golden Rooster, barang owned, Russian managed & Khmer family cooking. Breakfast is generous, 3 eggs any way you would like 2-3 strips bacon, 2-3 strips of good quality cheddar cheese, fried potatoes (fresh not frozen) a baguette or croissant, coffee or tea & they serve you a glass of water from their 20 litre bottle. Refills no problem. $3.00. Best value on Vaudeville Hill. IMHO.

Restaurant changes among the cheaper restaurants in town.
VicHill restaurant street update: Romdoul's was empty this week - not sure why - the menu is the same and it's great value. The guys have gone though, so maybe it's changed hands ?
The Golden Rooster across the road is now called Island something now and was just opening at 2pm - cheap drinks all afternoon until 6pm if I remember right - like 75c for pastis and 50c beers.
Otherwise, Nanas has moved to a a little side street off the main drag - ask the tuktuk drivers who hang out on the corner. They know everything.

:dm: And now for the important news, Ecstatic Pizza has moved from Tola St to Beach Rd - about three places on your left down from the tourist police office when you face Ocheuteal beach. They are in between two other happy pizza places, but this is the one we've been going to for years and I recommend.
The Ecstatic Pizza place on Tola is now run by some cousins, who are also nice people but its not the same, so check out Beach Rd. :thumb:
