Try Shooters bar on Victory Hill. Run by a couple of Poms (Keith and Shane), but don't let that put you off! Their curries are superb as is the rest of their Indian menu.

The problem w/Shooters is that Steve's curries are pre-frozen and they throw the rice in the microwave at the same time. It comes out harder than if wasn't cooked at all. Somebody told me that they sell them cheaper at Snooky's too. The Kampot Pepper curry is unique & superb. I don't care for their Nan though.

Mate, I don't know how true it is, but I was told Steve no longer has anything to do with Shooters. Apparently he taught the boys how to make the curries and they do it themselves now? As for the rice, well I have eaten it 3 times in the last couple of months ( with the curries of course!) and it has been perfect imo. My only complaint is that they can't make the curries hot enough for my taste. The Madras I rate as mild/medium, the Vindaloo medium at best.I'm not putting the curries themselves down, as I said before, they are excellent, just not quite hot enough for me.

^^^^^ I didn't know that. Come to think of it, the big Steve banner has been down for awhile. I haven't been in a couple months. The rice was bad the first 4 or 5 times until I started asking him to sprinkle some water on it.

Have a friend who likes the curries at Snooky's but I'm not a big fan - from memory, too much tomato sauce - it's a matter of taste really.
K2 on the first track that goes down to Occheuteal, a few metres up from the beach, used to be quite good, but is very hit and miss now. When it's good it's more than just edible, maybe it depends who is cooking. Anyway, if you don't mind the garage-like surroundings and an hour's wait, check it out. (I always take a paper or book to read.)
I think you've really got to check out these places yourself; the quality can vary wildly from one month to the next. That's why the guidebooks are so hopeless.

The $5 pizza & beer on Sat night at Mediterraneo deserves another bump. Best in town. I'd be happy with their pizza in NYC or SF.

I like CP chicken next to Orange Market when I need a quick fix of protein. 3,500 riel per piece of fried chicken and generally 3 pieces is enough to fill me up. It's a nice option when you're in a hurry.

The Spaghetti House is another cheap option in SHV. They keep it very basic, no frills, but a full plate of pasta with a warm demi-bagutte for $2 - $3 is hard to beat in terms of value. They're located near The Pizza Company, just off of Ekreach.

Has the place rebounded ? When was the last time you ate there ? The place changed owners > a year ago, it was awful twice, and I gave up on them. Half the menu was unavailable, the wine was oxidized, and the pastas were meh. I used to go there frequently a couple years ago. It was never great, but it was a great deal.

Can't say if it has "rebounded" since my first visit was only about a month ago. My most recent visit was roughly a week ago. It's nothing fantastic but I think you get good value for your money.
