I don't think I could deal with the 18 years of having a kid.

Just going to be Indiana jones then die.

Get wiped from history within a few generations anyway,

check out last 2 posts on gaps.com

Work in the NYC Public School System-- which gives me the summers off as well as a pension which I have 10 years in but like Lambo said, I feel like a shell of myself.. Or maybe I am being a drama queen?
2 months in the summer is cool but I want more.

Gonna check out that site in a few. Thanks.
AlWays hard when you have something like a pension dangling in front of you in 10 years. Will it kill it a lot of you leave soon?

I would spend my days after work trying to start a business and if it works out you can quit job. Better than watching Netflix and dreaming of being in tropics.
I have 10 years in already in the pension. Obv the longer your in, the more money at the end but i want to enjoy shit now--- i mean i am enjoying the 2 months for now...and if my pension is less cause i try to move for a time period then so be it.. or i will be kicking myself later...or am i talking in circles?.. going back to your question, i don't think it will kill me but it might kill a decent portion of it.. if i stay at 10 years as opposed to getting another 10 years in the pension...
a side business is another idea..different revenue streams..

Wow I thought you meant 10 years from retirement.

Fuck it and leave now.

I've lived in Asia working for marketing companies and guaranteed you'll can do it too being teacher. I CAN work only a few hours a day to get by.

Spend rest of that time having fun at and thinking of business to start. Time is on your side. Yes it is yes it is, oh oh oh oh ohhhhhhhhh yes it is. Sorry for Denzil Washington reference.

Can you not do distance learning or some shit? The 4G coverage is pretty good here, you can sit on Koh rong and type out your lesson plans and whatever, mark papers etc and still get Skype or something similar going.

Your brother sounds like an inconsiderate prick lol taking away all that special time you'll get to spend with the backpackers in peak season.
i dont spend time with backpackers in any season
closest ive been to backpackers the past 2-3 months is i was in big easy a few nights ago playing pool with 3 of my khmer friends

Lambo,
Curious-- if you go back/forth where do you stay when home? I assume you have family that puts you up? Asking because trying to decide what makes the most sense for me personally. I have a rent controlled apt in brooklyn w/ roommates and would love to keep it. Currently I travel for approx 2 months -- Summers then go back to cold ass nyc to work. I am debating about making a bigger jump.

Do you pay any bills in your homeland while your in cambo?
yeah i am lucky in the sense i do have family that put me up,
it would be too much of a ball ache if i had to look for a new apartment every time i go back, and it wouldnt be very cost efficient if i kept an apartment while im away, as im usually away for most of the year,
now im about to hit 30 i may start doing it the other way round for a few years and spending a bit more time in england and just coming over for a few months in the winter, and getting a decent wedge of cash behind me so when it does come to a stage when i want to make a permanent move out here i would have enough to set up a business or at least buy my own place etc
its the smarter thing to do as im still young when it comes to men in asia,
but im just an empty shell of a man when im back in england, my heart and soul stay here lol
thats great man... you sound like me..or I sound like you. I am 44 and just love it out there bro. So you don't work at all while in cambo? I would love to do that for a longer time period. I just have the summers --- more and more its just not enough for me. 2 months... I dont want to lose my apartment in brooklyn and have roommates so trying to work it out. Thanks for sharing as I am curious how others do it. Curious--- what kind of profession allows you to do that? you work on a boat or something?
I actually just emailed you as well to ask.

thanks again
You sound like you're in my position except I don't get the 2 months off(to bad you didn't get them in winter), I get my 2-3 weeks to Japan to see the gf's family and my friends, and a couple weekend local trips, even taking that time off is a major pain in the ass for me as I still have to take calls. I'm a similar age too, I'd like to live abroad in Asia while I'm still "youngerish."
I've been looking at starting a business abroad for a while, more and more I read about it the more off putting it seems. I know an older gentlemen down in Costa Rica, been living, running businesses down there for 25 years, I go have beers with him and pick his brain, his advise he has gave me repeatedly is - earn your money in the US then come down and put your feet up. I'm starting to lean towards that advise.

I still can't help to feel this pull over there, to live a more simple/less complicated life, I think what I hate most about the West is the materialism.
