Re: No Joke Howard Writes a Book!
Re the Banlung videos; Yeah, some good shots of Banlung market and streets, but you need to cut the sound on most of it. Too much shit. He goes on like he knows what he's talking about, but basically it's crap about himself in exotic surroundings, along with expert opinions on things he knows nothing about.
His visit to Yak Lom lake is typical: he doesn't even know the name of the lake, let alone have anything interesting to say about it. There are some nice scans of the lake - all of which are taken from the entrance point, so he hasn't bothered to do more than go there and film himself talking.
The lake is clean, pure and has no development (and no canoes, fishing etc)because it is a sacred place for local people. He missed all the stuff about indigenous culture, including those replicas of "love huts" that you can see in the video (raised huts in the background at the beginning of the video.)
He also missed the fact that the lake is an important place to hang out for Cambodians, and lots of fun. And looks like he didn't even go for a swim - that's nuts; it's probably one of the cleanest and most beautiful places to swim in Cambodia that's not off the beaten track.
For me, he totally missed the point. Good for him for going to Banlung at all I guess, but his guided tour is pathetic. I think what's really missing is interaction with any local people who might have given him some insight into what he was seeing. You'd do much better Jamie.
Oh, and FFS, we didn't even get a tour of the royal Thai dunny.
(Why is this not embedding? )
HOWEVER, (aha), you need to look at who he's making these videos for, which seems to be for guys in the US who don't travel, but like to watch videos of people like themselves who do.

You need to cut off the bit from and including the &, '&nohtml5=False'. Keep just this bit 'E-vcp6ZHUJs'.Anchor Moy wrote:

I'm just amazed he hasn't been deported with all the public ranting. If it were Thailand, he'd be gone.

This video clearly shows he isn't only a young douche bag hip hop fashionista but also a young clueless moron.
