Cambodia - you make me laugh!

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. This is brilliant. There's a manhunt (monkhunt?) on for a mysterious singing monk who is going to be defrocked and shamed. I know some Cambodians might feel that it's a bit disrespectful to laugh at this, but for me things like lovesick singing monks are part of Cambodia's charm. :thumb:

Ministry on lookout for lovestruck monk

The Ministry of Cults and Religion yesterday appealed to the public for help identifying and locating a monk who recorded a romantic song for his lover and uploaded it to Facebook, saying he would be either fined or defrocked for the infraction when caught.

The nearly three-minute-long video depicts the robed monk singing Pheakdey Sne Penh Besdoung, or “Heart Full of Love”, an ode about a man’s longing for a woman, and in doing so broke decorum expected of monks, said ministry spokesman Seng Sonomy.

“The ministry . . . is busy now searching for the identity of the monk who sang the song and posted on Facebook to his lover. It very much impacts upon the monk’s rules,” Somony said.

“He posted in public on Facebook, and everyone . . . criticised the whole Buddhist sector,” the spokesman explained. “The monk committee will discuss whether to fine him, or defrock him.”

The Ministry of Cults and Religion

Does anyone else find this at least humorous? I chuckle every time I read that phrase. Why is Cults plural & Religion singular?

http://www.mocar.gov.kh/

I'll call & make the inquiry.

I've seen the building on a walk about, certainly caught my attention. I think it's along the river maybe just south of the Palace area.

One wonders what sort of job titles folks that work the 'cult' side of things have and what sort of conversations they have with folks in other gov'ts during state/embassy type gatherings and dinners.

cheers

"what sort of conversations they have with folks in other gov'ts during state/embassy type gatherings and dinners."

With US embassy personnel maybe this, " It's a shame about Waco, men te?"
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

A member of senior management complained that his wifi was slow.
An IT person checked it out and reported back, "The reason it's slow is because the websites that you are trying to visit are in America and Europe, which are far away. If you try visiting Cambodian websites it will be faster".

technically they could be. electrons fly through the wires at close to the speed of light (electron wind impingement on interstitial lattice sites having some slowing influence). now light travels at 1ft/nanosecond (round numbers), assuming wire lines are made of similar material and that the servers are closer (less far away in country) it would take a wee bit less time to access them and return the information than accessing servers further away.

not that a human would (could) notice it.

just sayin'

Bollocks. In a current carrying wire charge propagates at a large fraction of the speed of light but individual electrons move at nowhere near that speed.

I thought Khmer sites would be slower because the internet programming [ bla, bla, bla ] is made up of series of noughts and ones. Khmer language does not have any noughts and ones, so it would have to go through google translate first.

I tell you it's true, I read about it on K440.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
