Khmer Funerals

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

five dollars. Just don't bring your bottle of vodka, as they will have rice wine for you.

Is it 7 days, 49 days, 100 days or 3 years funeral ?
បើសិនធ្វើចេះ ចេះឲ្យគេកោត បើសិនធ្វើឆោត ឆោតឲ្យគេអាណិត។

If you know a lot, know enough to make them respect you, if you are stupid, be stupid enough so they can pity you.

Wear a white shirt and long trousers. They are quite informal affairs.

as a barang you must turn up shit faced and try to get off with the grieving mother/sister/daughter/niece

then fall over the sound system and whilst you stand there in absolute silence get your willy out and shout "good morning vietnam!"

Long black dress trousers, white shirt, $5 - 10 in the envelope, don't turn up too early and feel free to leave when you've had enough of the ear splitting music.

I find funerals in the city quite morbid and depressing, whereas the funerals I've attended in the provinces have been more about celebrating the deceaseds life and family catching up who haven't seen one another for quite some time.

it was only last week so im guessing 7days

is $5 a normal amount? i was expecting it to be more but im guessing its a slightly different affair than birthdays/weddings? with it being a grandmother as well and not a "provider"
i have a white and black check shirt, am i best buying a plain white shirt?

A plain white shirt is best, even if you might get locals turning up wearing all sorts. And if it's your granny shave all your hair and eyebrows off.
