Bumblebee?

Have questions or resources regarding Khmer Culture? This forum is all about the Kingdom of Cambodia's culture. Khmer language, Cambodian weddings, French influence, Cambodian architecture, Cambodian politics, Khmer customs, etc? This is the place. Living in Cambodia can cause you to experience a whole new level of culture shock, so feel free to talk about all things related to the Khmer people, and their traditions. And if you want something in Khmer script translated into English, you will probably find what you need.

We're building a very small free education program based on the 'School on the Mat' approach. To fund this we're starting (yet another) VIP personal tours business and also a homestay for a specific niche. All under the umbrella of Bumblebee Cambodia.

Is it a prerequisite for ones who enroll to be converted? I saw 2 luxury churches sprung up in the urban area of Siem Reap and Kompong Thom faster than the Mormon on their bicycles in the last 2 months.

to me those relgiions always appear like MLM (multi-level-marketing).

everyone just becomes a member ('buys'), because they want to earn money with it.

To be clear, we've responded repeatedly every time there has been a 'conversion disguised as education' feeding frenzy here and elsewhere and our response is the same as it has always been. You intolerant anti-religion types feel free to bash away, but if you don't know us then you're generalizing, and I'm frankly too tired and too busy to keep defending something that needs no defense. It should be pretty clear by now that I have a thick skin and don't rise to baiting from the sad trolls among us.

I welcome discussion/questions/criticisms from those posters who are genuinely interested and especially those who have taken the time to know us as people. A few have given us time and energy working out the obvious pitfalls and giving business advice, and we're always grateful for that.

How about some info on the home stay. Where is it and what do you offer? Is there a website yet?
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

We've moved into a pteah lveang-style house and set up the mezzanine room as a separate guest apartment, will be offering it to visiting (religious) ministers who want an all-inclusive home stay experience "in a safe area near Psaar TTP" (seems to be a leading criteria) with the option of a Khmer interpreter/guide and tuktuk via the tour arm of the business.

Hardly novel but should turnover some small dollars to pay the rent and fund the free education program. We're not looking to be exclusive with the target customer, simply addressing a niche that we can meet. Would happily consider others who seek a quiet stay.

Domain name(s) are bought and paid for, placeholder landing pages set on the website, but not yet ready for show and tell. Google would find it easily, here's my late-night effort with Illustrator from the small hours of this morning. The bee graphic is not original.

It's a bit bumbly, jumbly, fumbly to my ears.

Dictionary does throw up
កន្លង់ (kɑnlɑŋ)
1 n a kind of large black bumble bee which has a painful sting.
2 n young man.
3 n a kind of fish.

Thanks Rama - a bit of research (asking a lot of locals, checking word lists and dictionaries, Google Translate) tells me 'bumblebee' exists in the Khmer lexicon, but so does 'dodo' apparently, and neither is known colloquially.

We will have to go with 'Happy Bee' or something similar in Khmer. Is there a well known, positive word for 'benevolent' or 'charity' that would work with 'bee'?
