Scammed at Sharky Bar in Phnom Penh:

This is the part of the forum where we discuss Cambodia's nightlife! While most bars, nightclubs, pubs, beer gardens, and hostess bars are in Phnom Penh, we discuss the Cambodian nightlife across all of Cambodia, including Siem Reap, Kampot, and Sihanoukville. The main nightlife areas in Phnom Penh are on Street 136, Street 130, Street 110 and Street 51, but there are other party spots that aren't girlie bars where expats, tourists, and locals drink until the sun comes up. Feel free to post specials and promotions that relate to nighttime fun!

As GM says you seem to have a limited idea how Phnom Penh bars work.
Once the girl has left the bar, in about half the cases they just go eating, bar cruising, and dancing. I'm not aware of any bar owners telling the girls to charge for this. The girls generally just enjoy getting out of the bar for the evening. Sometimes the guys will tip them $5-20 for their time, plus pay for food and drinks, but there is no "companionship" charge.

As far as your area, Pattaya, is concerned, I have no idea how the bars operate and have no interest in knowing. I've only spent a week there and that was five days too long. Bad attitudes from many girls and lots of crappy dull bars.
1. GM isn't correct, nor are you. We all know how Phnom Penh "bars" as we have followed their development over the years. We are disgusted by it if you haven't figured that out by now.

2. If the guy is tipping them for having dinner and a night out on the town, great. As you and I and most but not all know, that's a joke "night out" in PNH.

3. Pattaya isn't about bars despite the perception of short term visitors and of course publicity stunts like you try on. It's a tourist destination with many tourist attractions catering to the Chinese and other Asian tourists(Russians in the past) in addition to a massive development of condos for the affluent Thai people and farang retirement. Bars don't matter for shit, they can close them all tomorrow and not miss a beat, especially the barang run bars.

Taking this portion of your vicious reply alone, I think I'm going to cry. People are reading this forum who don't have a clue what you are doing with such antics. Should we inform them or just let them get scammed over and over again? That's the big question. As I said some pages back, you are ruining girls lives with this crap. She won't want to clean house, cook, or do anything other than go drink and eat out all on the barangs wallet since he's not only rich, but stupid. Lives, the future, is at stake if such crap is allowed to go on without recourse to those promoting it.

I have a perfectly refined idea and actual knowledge how "hostess bars" in PNH work. Why should I go in them? I have never nor will I ever pay a barfine in Phnom Penh. You've got to be crazy to do so, to promote and encourage such things.

GM....We ask you to wait until you are asked to buy a girl from said "hostess bar" and then give us your undivided opinion about the concept. Playing along even for a "night out" is setting yourself up for the ultimate scam of buying her "out" of said bar. Generally it's about one months barfine so that would I guess equal about $300.usd. They ask you for $300.usd to buy her out and you say what? Thanks.

Someone's got to ask....so I'll be the one, risking my membership doing so.....

Where exactly are you going to take her out? Poontoon or one of the various restaurants? To a Khmer movie? Thanks and hopeful. I've never been on a date with a prostitute in PNH so sort of need help with this. When I take a girl out for the first time, a "regular" girl, she always brings a chaperon and we always end up at an outdoor Khmer place which is/was okay. I just don't have a concept what you guys are talking about, taking girls you have paid a barfine for and who are generally with you for money, out to where? Other hostess bars where she has friends working? Buying lady drinks for the friends at these other bars?

That's what some guys tell the "bar owner" but as we all know, the girls need money and are with the barang for money, not love or dinner dates.
Ok, but time tone down the persistent flaming of all bar owners and bars.

Yes, Pontoon, but that's just me. LoL.

The point is, a lot more ALSO goes on that you don't see.

Nobody has said that they don't ALSO go home with customers.

some real hairsplitting morally vexed mongers here isn't it?
I think the basis of the argument is that they are afraid of inflation by those with more money than their very good selves.

:D I can always afford them, it's just the quality that I can afford has declined. In the old days it was a version of a well oiled German piece of precision engineering with the perfect lines of an Italian sports car, nowadays it's a version of a clapped out ( no medical connotation intended ) 20 year old beat up Tuk Tuk that pollutes the atmosphere. :D If that's inflation, life's a bitch.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

I must differ in the venues I attend to other posters.
No complaints from me on the social life I find.

As to cost, a small soft drink was $4.80 in a pizzeria in Sydney I visited Friday night.
