Private SUV or Van from PP to HCMC
Re: Private SUV or Van from PP to HCMC
You can take a lot of luggage on the PP-HCMC big bus btw, just pay a little extra.
Could, i took the big bus last time, but for me because i have so much stuff, i have to pay for a tuk tuk and they charge me about 5 times the normal price and im not sure i blame them either - the last time went fine but about 1/2 of my stuff was sticking out the side of the tuk tuk. Second problem is theft on the big bus, perhaps someone could swipe some of my luggage, so getting a private just decreases my level of stress since i can take it from my homestay direct to the Ferry. On the return trip we can see. I may have to go to PP to get a new tourist visa for Vietnam.
Backup plan is to skip Vietnam in this case i would have to pay for a hefty airfare to fly to another country.

I travel in private cars regularly. The trick is to find a driver you can trust, and this is the safest way to travel the roads in Cambodia, forget the buses. I know them personally, or have them referred to me by someone I trust, but I don't know anyone for that route, I'm sorry. You could try explaining it to a driver in advance if you're really worried about it, but you'll still have to find another one at the border.

Dress up as a pangolin (or a live Sun bear) and you will get across the border no prob.
You just need a Vietnamese escort.

While we are indulging in fantasy travel planning, how much does it cost to fly to Narnia on a winged unicorn?

Pay it. Worth the money to bring your stuff.Matty9999 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 5:00 pmI have a lot of luggage thats why im looking to take a private vehicle but first im going to the islands then when i come back from that ill go to HCMC if its open. I may also check the cost of an airline but im sure itll be a lot more given the cost of luggage.armchairlawyer wrote: ↑Fri Nov 27, 2020 4:38 pm OP is clearly OK about dying or he would be flying, or taking the big bus.
I've never done that trip by private car. I would guess about $60 to Bavet. Then about $25 to HCMC. I wouldn't fancy the negotiation with the driver on the Vietnam side. Can he do a through journey in the same car?
Besides being safer, those big buses had a good routine at the border, made it easy for the pax.
Edit just checked airlines are showing some inflated prices $500 to $1000, but in my case luggage is another $500-$700.

It depends upon which winged unicorn line you choose of course, but all unicornlines would approach infinity. And good point. This information is as useful as the OP.

I know it seems strange now, but imho we are not far away from travel being possible again. International flying should be back by April 2021 but more expensive than pre-Covid. We'll need to be vaccinated of course.

Everyone knows that there are no winged unicorns in Narnia. Only a talking Lion with the deep magic. And transport is through wardrobes and paintings. And never the same way twice.Marty wrote:It depends upon which winged unicorn line you choose of course, but all unicornlines would approach infinity. And good point. Now back to helping OP with his question.

I dont expect international travel everywhere without quarantine till earliest, end of the summer.
FYI:
for thailand they wont let anyone in (without quarantine) till the thais are vaccinated and they dont expect that till mid year
Being vaccinated in the us/uk, China, wont get ya into a country without quarantine..
Even thou i'd love to think it would.
They are saying for the states ( which i do believe will be the first to start vaccinating people, as early as in the next 2-3 weeks) as many as 60% wont get vaccinated
https://www.economist.com/united-states ... 19-vaccineAsked what keeps her up at night as Texas prepares for the arrival of the first covid-19 vaccines, Imelda Garcia from the state’s health department singles out two opposite scenarios: either a serious shortage of vaccine, or lots of it sitting around unused because nobody wants to take it. These two worries are on the minds of many other public-health experts as 6.4m doses of vaccine stand ready to be dispatched across America, on a nod by the Food and Drug Administration (fda), the federal drug regulator.
That nod is expected on December 10th or shortly after, when the fda will make a decision on the first covid-19 vaccine submitted for approval in America, a jab developed by the drug firms Pfizer and BionTech. Moderna, the developer of another vaccine, is expected to undergo fda review on December 17th
Many immunisation experts worry that this “build it and they will come” approach is naive. At the moment, surveys suggest that anywhere between 20% and 60% of Americans may not accept a covid-19 vaccine. In one survey only a third of nurses said they would voluntarily get vaccinated. Some people are worried that the vaccines may not be safe, suspicious that corners may have been cut in the rush to develop them so quickly. Others have seen various kinds of alarming misinformation. Muddled messages from various political leaders have also done their share of harm.
Devils advocate;
Are all vaccines equal?
will someone vaccinated in Russia, China be as acceptable as one vaccinated in the states?

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

^ You may be right that Thailand is a hold out while everywhere else is open to those who have been vaccinated. OTOH, Thailand has economic problems that are starting to get out of hand. Not an exact equivalent but as Nixon said, when you've got them by the balls, their hearts and minds will follow
