postmen and scooters

Ask us anything. Cambodia Expats Online has a huge community of long-term expats that can answer any question you may have about life in Cambodia. Have some questions you want to ask before you move to Cambodia? Ask them here. Our community can also answer any questions you have about how to find a job or what kind of work is available for expats in Cambodia, whether you're looking for info about Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, or anywhere else in the Kingdom. Tuks tuk? Is she a disabled pensioner? Few Cambodians take tuk tuks unless they're pregnant, elderly, need the hauling capacity, or there's more than 5 and they can't fit on a motodop. When they do, they don't pay $2-3 a ride.

Troll, or sucker. If the latter, pics or GTFO.

Hmm this little story has taken a turn for the worse. why would i be a troll. anyway, if you want the long story as to why she took a tuk tuk to the bank today its because her english is appalling and my cambodian is non existant. when i stayed in cambodia there was uniformed tuk tuk drivers in the grounds of my hotel. i told her to go and get one of them so i could explain the whole western union thing to her. so she caught a motorbike to the hotel, found our friend and called me. i spoke to him and he took her to the bank and went inside with her and helped her get the money with the little code thing and stuff. and then when i knew she had the money i sent another amount so she could go to PP tomorrow and get a passport because im coming back soon and i want to travel with her to Vn which she hates and Thailand which she likes. So, sometimes there is a reason why things happen the way they do. it does not mean that anyone is a troll or a sucker.

Again, there was a reason. I few hours earlier we had gone out with $100 an bought lots of kids stuff - toys and food - and had gone out into the outskirts and given them out to kids in the wilds. these kids were feral but it was fun. and she had the change in her pocket. she could have kept it but instead she handed $5 to this person as she walked past. Im not sure why you are so cynical.

"Im not sure why you are so cynical.". After having lived here 17 years and living with Cambodians in a small village, I know exactly the source of my cynicism. But I'll be goddamned if I understand your optimism. If you're not a troll then come to this country you love so much. They'll be lined up several rows deep waiting for First National You.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

so... to clarify... this girl...
Doesnt have a Decent job, Speaks poor English, but has plenty of money to lend you $20, dish out $5 to beggers and ride Tuk Tuks...

from personal knowledge/experience, id say your girl already has some guy giving her money, whether its a khmer, expat or sponsor...

Khmer girls are good actors to those who dont know any better ie. you,

playing dumb is one of the easiest roles to act, and all that will do is fuel your white knight tendencies

due to the stereotypical naive way you come across it rings every ones troll alarms, if you are not, you should take a rain check

good luck
